Hubby and I went camping at Mineral Wells this past weekend. That is a BEAUTIFUL park and I highly recommended it (if you can book it).

Things to ask / learn about next time.

1. Carry a weather radio. Bad storms cropped up Saturday.
2. Do I really need water / electricity?
- We are going to try the primitive side next time. We really didn't use the water. We carried our own.
3. We carried an extra tarp - didn't have one drop of water in the tent.
4. If you want peace - camp away from the bathrooms.
5. I didn't see ONE raccoon.
6 If you can, bring your own firewood. This gets expensive. We bought 5 bundles and we could have used more.
7. Boyscouts / Cubscouts were camped right next to us. SUPER noisy the first night (I chalked it up to them being excited). Hubby talked to the scout master the next morning and they were great the next night.
8. Who ever invented parachute cord is a GENIUS - we used the heck out of this stuff.

This is a great idea. Should we start a camping tips thread?

#9 learn the proper knot for what you need.

#10 Do you need the big container of mayo, mustard, strawberry jelly, etc.. or would it be easier to take along those little single serve packets?

I'm liking this idea Kattelyn!
Just a bit of "things I've learned" thread.
We are just a couple of years into more serious tent camping and love it, but we have adjusted so much from when we started.
Hmmmmm.

noodlebuttsmom-

Thanks for the report, I would love to hear more details when you have time.
The wife and I have wondered about this park but just haven't dug into it more.

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

One of my top 5 parks in Texas. To solve the firewood problem, I found a great area about 1 mile from the park to pick some up for free.

Directions:

Take 180 west to the first light which is Washington.
Take Washington to the "Y" going right (Hood Rd.) then left on Cross Rd.
At the stop sign turn left on Pershing Rd.
Take the first dirt road to the left.

Lots of free firewood off this road. Never buy wood when you can pick it up for free. We got a pick-up load in a matter of 10 minutes. We had to saw and break it into the proper size once we got back to camp. I will say our fire was the envy of our neighbors. I do like a rather large fire to sit by on chilly nights.
