Hit some brush piles in 8' to 16'.
Then timber 10' to 16'
wife worked the minners while i tried jigs, slab bandit texas toast and char/pearl, white/char rocky top, char roadrunner
water temp around 74

couple bites, no fish. WTF.

Anybody know what went wrong?
cold front? wind?
Was I not deep enough?

Summer like temps, Spring like winds, Fall like water color, Winter like lockjaw.

We actually caught enough yesterday before the storms to make a good meal. Kept 8 fish out of 9 caught, mostly in 12ft water, using minners and jigs. Several over 11" long. cheers

Give it a couple of days. The front that went through here yesterday was pretty strong and probably knocked them off the bite for a couple days. We had pretty heavy rains and brief hail in Highland village about a quarter mile from Hickory Creek branch.

i have a hard time believing that crappie just won't bite because of a cold front. they still need to eat.

they are in the lake, just not on brush piles and timber in the 8' to 16' range. at least not where i looked.

do they go deeper or do they like the cooler water up top and run up the creeks?

do they go upwind or downwind?

did anyone find some crappie on LL on Sunday afternoon before the storm?

You best believe it, it does happen. Fish can go several days without feeding on occasion. Probably though, you were just not in the right spot at the right time. They bit very good on Sat. and fair on Sunday. Sunday was tough to fish in the right places and the right way because of the wind and today would be even worse.

Brush piles in 13'-18' producing good with newer piles best. Timber very spotty. Maybe only one tree in a whole group with fish. Should settle down in a couple of days.

Three of us picked up 10 keepers yesterday in about 15'. Worked all types of structure. The wind was tough.

I managed 8 keepers off my brush piles in about 14' to 16' of water. Could have done better if the wind would have laid.

thanks for the feedback guys.

i probably shouldn't have been fishing the northeast side of LL. I did have a lot of trouble maintaining position, felt like i was trolling around.

i should have gone to the southwest side but was worried about getting caught up in a storm, i launched from Little Elm.

If i was to drown fishing for crappie, it would mean the crappie win. I couldn't deal with that.

i think i'll go organize all my slab bandits while i wait for wind to calm down. why does everything smell like garlic? LOL

Rob, I went up to the NE in the morning around 8:30 or so, I started to get bites on every stump I hit, kept 5 good keepers, biggest 2 were 1.7 and 1.11 , a few throw backs but not many. Then they just quit around 9:30 and I could not buy a bite, I was using black/chart tube jig with nibblets.

Did you run over a skunk on the way to the lake? Because there are plenty of dead ones near where I live. Must be mating season for skunk or something weird like that. I counted three dead ones on one stretch of a road. sick

Rob

I see you bought fish & ski / ski & fish. New or used? I've been looking for one to buy. Haven't found anything yet. The ski part makes it sound better selling the idea to my wife. Hahahaha!!!

fish

bought new in 2006, Glastron GX205SF, Volvo Penta 5.0 Gxi fuel injected 270HP, came with live well, Minkota 24 volt foot control TM with autopilot, Lowrance fish finder, tackle storage area

I added extended swim deck, Humminbird 898c si on console, moved Lowrance unit to TM and installed 4 rod holders.

Bimini top is nice on rainy days. Trolling motor comes off with 1 thumb screw when you're not fishing.

Works as good as any bass boat i've been on. Great for the family, great for fishing. It gets used a lot in my family

Pros, very versatile boat, good top speed 50-55 mph depending on water, more stable than bass boat on rougher water, bimini top

Cons, deep hull can't fish the shallows less than 4' depth, higher profile harder to control with TM on windy days then bass boat

one thing for sure, DO NOT get a V6 motor in a 20' boat. poor hole shot, low top speed and the motor has to work way harder even at cruising.
