I spent the afternoon float fishing the canals and man, was it frustrating! I've never seen the turtles so turned on at this swim. I caught 4 or 5 of them, all but one swallowed the hook and it seemed like I spent most of the day re-baiting and re-tying. I caught a PB softshell that must have weighed 20-30 pounds, I thought I was gonna break my rod just lifting it close enough to cut the line. Fortunately, after several hours of this my patience was paid off with another PB, this time the one I was after. It weighed 18lb.12oz., just edging my previous float PB and was the second biggest carp I've gotten from the Reading swim. I got a passerby to snap a pic. I learned a valuable lesson today: when float fishing, treat every single bite like it's a carp. I was approximately 500% sure I had a turtle bite...very sloooow steady dip of the waggler, just like pretty much every turtle I've caught on the float. I cursed under my breath and set the hook and was quite pleasantly shocked when my drag started screaming. DT came and fished with me for a while but we didn't get anything (other than more turtles) after he arrived. Zach visited for a bit too and actually pre-baited the swim this morning for us, so thanks to him.

Nice. I have never caught a carp from Reading (i've only been once but still) I need to go back soon.
I hate softshells! I got a 33lber on a boilie yesterday plus a 18lber on a catfish rod.

Nice fish Ben! I feel ya with the turtles, but it shouldn't be long until we see less of them.
