The perfect punch bait tool is a sloted
screw driver. This hit me as I was looking
around my dock for something to use. I thought I had one in the shop, but could not
find it. Two minutes with a dremmel tool and
I had one. Works great. Just put one side
of the treble in the slot and you can punch
it right to the bottom of the jar and the
screwdriver comes out clean. What a deal.
It will do double duty as a hook remover.

Good luck MO

i use a similar thing but instead of putting a notch in your screw driver get one of those gardening tools used i guess for digging weeds. long metal shaft with wood handle and has a forked point. sounds like the same thing without having to do the work

The best tool i have found is a good set of surgical hemo's. i grab hold of the hook just under the eye, ( not the line side ) and them roll it arond the plastic jar, until i have a neat ball the covers all the points.

Jason, not to belittle anyone elses ideas on this thread, but of all I have read, if I hadn't already pretty well mastered the 1/2" dowel rod, I would like your idea.

I think I'll buy a couple of those and drop them in the bottom of the rod box for when I can't find a dowel rod. If they are tough enough?? I am rough with punch bait when I am in a hurry and I put a lot of pressure on my punch sticks. Reckon they will hold up?

You see, my 1/2" dowel rod has most of the characteristics y'all mention. The large wood tip allows me to set a hook point in it just like Mo's slotted screw driver.

The size of it allows me to roll my bait around the lip of the bucket to form a tight little ball as Curtis mentions.

And, the fact it's wood, it washes off easily and is completely disinfected in 24 hours.

To the point you could use them for chop stick to eat Chinese Food! Where's Snowman? Let's let Mikey try them first! From the looks of him, he'll eat anything!

The wooden paint paddles are free at my work... The Home Depot. I need to pick up a few.

I have used the wooden paint stir sticks and if you are as clumsy as I am or get real hooked up with fish and if it goes overboard it will float and you wont lose a good screwdriver. the flat surface also helps you pad the bait onto the hook as you pull it out of the jar. Some baits do not have as much binder as DK and need to have this done

Sticker puller works good. Garden tool section, it looks like a screw driver with a small V shaped fork on the end.

These are all great ideas, but I'm willing to bet none of them work as well as my fingers. Oh yes, I'll admit it. After the first trip trying to use all the above, I said forget it...I'm goin in. lol.
