Anyone been recently? We're going back for the first time in years this weekend.

I don't think many guys are trying their luck out there. The golden alge kills has everyone off that lake, and I think for good reason. Used to be the best smallmouth lake in Texas, not anymore.

Yeah I remember the great smallmouth fishing years ago. I thought the golden algae didn't hurt the largemouth population too bad, or so I had heard.

Don't worry about the GA talk. The largemouth are fine. Haven't been out there myself in a while but you will catch fish

I agree, growing up in West, Lake Whitney and Aquilla were the only lakes close enough to really fish regularly. Even during the times when the golden algae was supposed to be really bad it never hurt our fishing. I live on Belton now and the two lakes fish pretty similar. One day you can be on the fish and the next day it seems like they have moved off completely. Only thing is at Belton I don't have any golden algae to blame it on when I can't find them haha. I don't blame the guys at all who have to drive a ways to get there from saying the golden algae has hurt the fishing. That's just the way that lake is. Believe me though the fish are there just as long as you know where to catch them.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good fishing there too this weekend. Heading there Friday myself.

The rock points in front of the state park in the morning with pop r or spook. Then c rig rage tail thumper worms once that bite stops. Havent tried the McCown flats but here they will produce this time of year.

Good deal, looks like I'll just stick to the same old spots then. Any fish moving into the backs of the coves (around the campground, or Harbor Master)?

We'll be getting there Friday evening, staying at the State Park. White Champion and F150, feel free to stop by and say hey if you see me.

Try Towash creek while you are on that end of the lake. You will know within an hour if they are in there or not.
