Once you find a spot and anchor up, how long do you wait to move if you havent gotten a bite? When i'm shallow water fishing, i usually give it 30min and move if i'm not catching fish. I'm just startign to try to figure out anchoring up so i'm not sure how long i should wait to move.

DW, I give the deep water about 30 min to an hour max, just depends on if i was marking them around the structure. On the humps I at least go back and forth over them 3-4 times to see if I mark anything and know they are there or not.

Thanks chase.
The lake i fish most up here is nothing but deep holes, ledges, etc.
There aren't any flats to drift..unfortunately so i really need to figure out this anchoring up thing. I caught a 50lb blue last week anchored up on a ledge that has a verticl drop from 35ft to 65ft.
i stayed on the ledge for 2 hours...and thats about the only fish worth mentioning that i pulled from it.

It'll only get better as it gets colder. Sounds like a helluva spot, I'd definately sit there alot once the water temps get in the 40's. I sit so long in an area because it gets to be a PITA pulling anchors and moving alot. That's why I like to scout and make sure it'll be worth my while.

Yeah pulling up them anchors is a pain the arse.
This particular lake is a power plant lake..warm side is seperated from the cold side by a huge levee.

During the winter the cold side gets to be in the 30's, while the "warm" side is in the upper 40's to low 50's. The warm sides deepest spot is about 35-40ft, while the cold sides deepest spot is about 80ft. I've never even seen a boat in the cold side once the water temps drop to about 60...seems all fish and boats move to the warm side.

Just like shallow water fishing, if the fish are there and feeding, you'll know it within minutes. Biggest difference is the amount of anchor rope you have t pull up.

CatfishClyde
the Anchor Lift and Big Red Ball it takes the Pain in the A*S*S out of lifting heavy anchors out of deep water and rivers.

I have pulled a few back muscles on Eufaula, Stockton, and Truman Lake pulling a heavy anchor up from 50+ water bare handed. I rather use my boat motor now.

It also allows you to unclip and run if you catch a really Big Blue and you have to chase him down river. Just come back and pickup anchor later!

Hey D are those deflatable ? Ive been thinkin about one but sure looks like they would take up a lot of room if ya cant let the air out.My boat dont have a compartment big enough They use um in Alaska sure makes it easier in deep water.
