Congratulations on the new lake home. Now, I catfish north of the 1097 bridge, which is north of where you are located. However, Conroe is not that large of a lake( 20,000 acres) so you can fish almost any location within half an hour( I say this because that is how long it takes me to get from the Lake Palua area( stow away Marina) to the dam in a 16ft aluminum boat with a 25hp motor[slow]). Locate areas with stumps, etc. in 10-25 ft of water, put out some range cubes for chum, and fish straight down with either stink bait or chicken liver. Conroe is a great channel cat lake.

john, if you want to really learn some good spots, contact Catfishkiller ( he has a web site) and go out on a guided trip.

We jug fished Conroe last weekend in the general area of the State Park. We used fresh shad and beef heart. Caught about 50 or so in 2 days with 16 jugs out. Fished in 10-13 ft of water. I live in Dallas and a bunch of us camped out at the state park. Biggest was 16.5 lbs blue. Came home with 4 one gallon freezer bags stuffed full of fillets. Gonna have a fish fry this Friday night.

I assume you mean the Sam Houston State Park which is located on the north end of the lake. That is a fine area for catfish year round. Jug fishing is great and if you want to rod and reel fish, there are many locations amongst the stumps for fishing.

Yes,
You are correct, Sam Houston state park. We did good out in the open water just past the stumps. Caught a few nice ones just the other side of the bridge that is close to the park also.

That's Sam Houston National Forest, the nearest state park is Huntsville State Park. The campgrounds in SH Nat'l Forest are Cagle at the 1375 bridge and Stubblefield up the road a bit. There's also a Nat'l Forest boat ramp on 1097, Scotts Ridge, but no camping and a lot of jet skis and ski boats.
Anyway, the fishing is great at any of those spots, especially if the lake is full.
