Guys,

I'm new to catfishing and was wondering if you can only catch them in the morning and at nighttime.

I would like to catch them right after work on my way home. Any advice??

Thanks,

Mark

At times they will bite in the middle of the afternoon, but catfish are most active earily in the morning or in the evening. At night when things are cooling down, they move into the shallows..a great time to fish if you like nite fishing and don't have to go to work the next day.

It also would depend on what time of the year it is. Right now, in the Summer, It gets too hot for a lot of fish to come up shallow or to be active. In the morning, the water had all night to cool down serveral degrees. So right now fish mornings and evening for any time fish. It's too hot to be out there in the afternoons anyway!!! What are you thinking!! HAHAHAAHA!

Find you a creek or a cove with vegetation that had been dry before all our June rains and you will definitely find the cats. They are in prespawn right now with lots of smaller fish right in with the big spawning fish. My wife and I went out sunday from 3pm to 8pm and caught ten 14 to 22 inch blue and channel cats and had several more bigger break off after wrapping around submerged trees and shrubs.

Thanks for all the info. I'm heading to the lake after work today.

Thanks,

Mark

Lake Conroe is a good catfish lake north of Houston.

Thanks Kirk. I've fished Conroe before, but not for catfish. I'll have to give it a try.

Mr. Clyde,

Thanks for asking.

I went at 5:00 and threw out 2 handfuls of range cubes. Went back at 6:00 with frozen shad. Threw my 2 lines out, sat in my chair...beer in hand. 2 beers later and no bites. Got up to put new bait on and my first line and my second pole got a hit. Dropped my first line to pick up my second and vice versa. I felt like I was in the three stooges. Final verdict was that I missed 3 fish and caught one very big turtle. Haven't been back since Wed., but I'll be heading back in the morning.

Have a good weekend.

Mark
