I was fishing Fork this morning with not much luck ( did very good yesterday) but I seen alot of this stuff growing on the stumps.... I'm thinking its some kinda larva.... Maybe knat larva? Anyone know what it is???? Kinda creepy looking

i have seen it before as well, i always thought of it as some kind of seed?

It's a colony of single celled organisms. Can't remember the proper name
Supposed to be a sign of good clean water

It is called Bryozoans ( Pectinatella Magnifica). Also known as "water-brains."
We came across some about a year ago on Fork. I got it in the dip net but it was very heavy. I was afraid to touch it because this was the first time we had seen this.
Freshwater Bryozoans are in lakes and streams that do not contain excessive mud and silt and that are sufficiently rich in plankton ( drifting organisms - animals, plants, bacteria).
They consist of filter feeding zooids.Each zooid has feeding tentacles that sway slowly to filter the water and capture plankton.
There was an article written about this in the September "The Fisherman's Guide." that I always pick up when at Fork.

we had em on the vine a couple of years back when the lake was way high and the water was filtered and very clear.
