Great opportunity for motor companies to set themselves apart and improve their product.
Yamaha did w/ the SHO, they looked at the 4-stroke trend/regulations & then built one better than before.

Lots of Fords are built to run on E85, my f-150 is.

I have contacted Yamaha for their opinion regarding 15% Ethanol in gasoline. This is what I have found out.
None of the Yamaha outboards are made to handle ethanol higher than 10%, this includes both 2 cycle and 4 cycle motors. Use of E15 will void your warranty.
There is no additive that can make them work! All of the additives currently on the market address phase separation. That is the tendency of the ethanol to separate from the gas while in your tank. Think about this if you have 50 gallons of E10 on board it has 5 gallons of ethanol in it, E15 would have 15 gallons! When separation occurs you have gasoline that has a very low octane that will blow up your motor and ethanol which will blow up your motor!
The analogy given to me was this: If you put a gallon of milk on the table and use it in the morning and let it set until noon then put back in the refrigerator after it has begun to go bad could anything be added to it to make it good again. All of the additives slow down the process of phase separation but none prevent it in the long run. Adding additive to your tank is like adding chocolate syrup to milk, it is just a glob of chocolate until you mix it up.
The E15 ruling can be stopped! Contact your congressmen and vote for those who will stop E15 from happening.

I don't know about E15 but my '90 200 Evinrude runs fine on E10. I do have a water seperator and ALWAYS leave the gas tank as empty as possible before I put away the boat. Less gas means less alcohol which means less water seperation

I thought you were supposed to leave it full so as to avoid condensation. ?
I too added a water separator, changed the gas lines to the new EPA approved/ethanol resistant, and add marine stabil and Quickleen everytime I fill up.
But I don't know what's going to happen with E-15.

Wouldn't 50 gallons of E15 have 7.5 gallons of ethanol? The ethanol law was passed in 2005.... Who are we going to vote out?

And I know who "Jeff" is.

I don't get on the water but about once a month and my mechanic was the one who told me to leave the tank as empty as possible. He said there are so many additives to gas that they will evaporate out in 30-45 days in a vented system. He did say you will get more condensation with a empty tank but the double whammy of E10 and additives evaporating was worse. Pretty much said it is best to have fresh gas every time out and DEFINATELY a water seperator. Also check it every couple of months and carry a spare canister to change when needed. Sure wish I knew more about the E15 on an old motor

I think it is time for a class action law suit against the EPA for their blatant disregard for the motors that will not run on 15% ethanol without damage.

There is NO positive benefit to ethanol in gas......

If the government truly want to be less dependent on foreign oil they need to open up more drilling in the US, simple as that.

The sad part is that it is all a laundring scheme. We farm and if you figure all the water and fertiliizer that it takes to produce a gallon , it is around $5. The two biggest ethanol conversion plants in the midwest both took the grant money then closed the doors last year when the money ran out. The price of beef and pork is expected to rise 20% because of the corn shortage.. it is all a joke and the water level is falling annually to where a lot of acres that use to be in irrigation is not now. A political joke and if you don't vote against the people causing this them you deserve all the pain that is about to come on you and your family from the higher cost in related and unrelated items to ethanol. VOTE THEM OUT, TALK IT TO OTHERS , TAKE A STAND - TALK ALONE IS CHEAP- VOTE- by the way , do you know what all the extra fertilerzer used is made out of ---- OIL
