The cats that I put in my livewell are dying. This may be stupid for asking but do you have to clean your livewell with soap our bleach ever once in a while to keep them clean? This is a new problem I have been having. use to they would survive all day summertime our winter time. I always make sure to keep cool water in the livewell and circulating water as wale. I usually keep them untill the end of the day and take pictures of them and release them but now I have to give them awawy or throw them back as soon as I catch them. Please help with any info thanks.

I would suggest adding a handful or two of water softner salt to your livewell water. It helps calm the fish's nerves. You may want to consider cleaning it with some city water to kill any bacteria that may be in there. Make sure your aerators are working properly, and don't keep the water way cooler than the lake water, because that can kill the fish as well. Hope you can keep those fish alive!

Well it looks to me like you need to start bass fishing. They are a lot tougher and won't die like a little foo foo catfish.

Of course I am joking.

Mibass is right, bass do seems to be much hardier, even when I bowfish for them they still live for a long time after I pull the arrow out.

I would fill some gatorade bottles with water and freeze them. THen add them to the livewell. If you just put ice in it the chemicals in the ice will likely kill the fish. eeks

Go to wally world and buy some start rite. It is sold in the department where you buy the guppies and such. Put a tablet in when you fill up your livewell and see if that doesn't help. Cold stuff helps as well I think.

TPWD can also help you with this. Just e-mail or call them. We have an Inland Fisheries here in Whickeyta Falls and they help me all the time.

Just sticking up for my fellow catfishermen--ok ok --it was a bad joke I admit it. Just gets old, the arrogance of bass fishermen that put down all other forms of fishing
