I have used green lights, and they do attract bait fish, however.... I would bet my next paycheck there is some chumming going on. When I used to feed catfish off my dock, I could get dozens of channels right under my spotlights. I even reconize the posture of those fish, looking up for floating catfish food. It takes weeks of feeding to get this behavior in an open lake. Good luck MO

Heck, if you look hard you see what looks like bits of floating catfish food.

We fished some under-water lights like that near port o'conner. It was just swarming with trout the whole time.

Lights at night for catfish,
All the old timers tell me not to use lights at night when going after catfish.
Which type of fish are more attracted and why? I can see the lights working for whites & stripers or trout going after the bait fish.
I can understand if you had a boat dock and you baited with the use of the light, but what about the weekend fisherman that trys this at a normally dark portion of the lake. I don't think it will increase your catch, I may be wrong.
If it has worked for you let me know I will try it.
Thanks,
Greg

It can work well at times. Sometimes you will attract so many shiners or shad they will start swimming around the lit area in a massive swirling circle. Rest assured this attracts night feeding fish! It can depend on the depth of the water...stucture surrounding the light, etc. Crappie and sand bass will sometimes congregate right on the frendges of the light, or wait patiently below in the shadows for a snack. I've seen LMB bully their way right through the thick of the action several time. Kind of like the speckled trout do at night.
Lights have never attracted catfish for me. I prefer to fish for them in pretty much complete darkness except for a flashlight in my pocket.
