This week I will not be able to post a report for Lake Amistad as I am getting ready to leave for a 4 day float trip down the Devils river for some fantastic smallmouth fishing as well as some beautiful scenery. I am taking my point of veiw camera and will post a video of the trip when I get back!

Wish me luck!

Respectfully,

Jc Gwynne

can't wait to see the video. This is something I have always wanted to do, very cool. How many miles will you cover in 4 days? What will you be fishing out of? good luck!

Trip of a lifetime. I have done it a couple times. We never covered more than 7-8 miles a day when really fishing hard. You will catch tons of smallies in the fast water(chartruse and pumpkin curley-tail grubs and tubes) and some really big LMB in the slower back-water areas(worms, spinnerbaits & topwaters).Really a cool river. Enjoy! 361V

Take the small pop-rs and small plastic craws or finesse football jigs. Also watch for the catfish they are fun to sight fish up there as well.
Good luck.

Can't wait to see the videos. Been wanting to do that very thing myself. Also would be enterested in hearing how you were able to camp since I hear alot of the property owners along the river are pretty deadset against anyone setting foot on there land for fear of the trash buildup.

Are you guiding this trip or just doing it for fun? Hmmmm.......is that a contradiction?? If you are guiding, I'd be interested to know about your services for the Devil's River. I've looked it up on Google Earth and it appears to be sweet.

You can camp at bakers crossing. Which is the put in spot for most people. From there, i think it is about 14 miles to the natural area which is a designated camping area. You are allowed only one night though. You can camp on islands in the middle of the river as long as its surrounded by water. If you dont use a guide servcie. You will have to go all the way into the lake before you take out. Its like 55 miles total or someting. I suggest using Gerald Bailey so you can take out at his camphouse.

Yep, Gerald Bailey is the person to call for shuttle and take-out. If you go from Bakers crossing to Geralds its about 22 miles. Perfect for three days of hard fishing. Read the state laws about navigable rivers, tresspassing and camping in the "river bed". You have some rights but out there it's between you and the landowners. We always took two days getting to the Devils River WMA. Not sayings it's OK to camp along the way or condoning it...just saying. The senery and the fishing is worth the hassle!

Don't worry about hearing a banjo, worry about hearing some Marinarchi music.
