ensignjason, I just use Sure Shot, real easy, I use trebble hooks, just punch a hole in the bait with a stick, lower the hook into the hole, press the bait around the hook, pull out at an angle and your set. Hope this helps

don't use those kind of baits to often but when I do I use the Looper rigs they seem to hold the bait pretty well

Throw that stuff away and get you some Danny King's punch bait. It will go straight on a treble hook. I got mine at wal-mart.

Originally posted by TheFirstNameThatWorked2: Anyone try coil springs on hook or sewing thread or using pantyhose? When you fish fish some of the quality punch baits like mentioned above such as Sure Shot or Danny Kings, you will find that just using a bare trebble hook is all you need. I used to try the spings and thread and so forth, but when the fish are really hitting good, and after you snag up and have to re-tie a few times you'll find those extra features on your hook are not needed. Working the bait onto the hook and getting the right consistancy is a lot easier than fiddling with that hook every time you bait up. Dip baits are effective and have their place, but the bait does have to be fairly dry in order for it to stick. You may have to thicken the bait up with a small amount of flour if it is too runny. The sewing thread, and pantyhose are a good remedy for getting casting distance when fishing chicken livers, say from the bank where you need to get it out there. Out of a boat I just open the bail or hit the free spool and let the weight take it down, or you learn to use the liver lob, where your cast isn't a cast, but more like your lobing a chunk of mud off the end of your rod.
Just one more cast!

Cut a small piece of sponge, put a hole all the way thru, (use an icepick) stick it over a #6 treble hook. Wet the sponge the first time and wring out excess water. Dip into stick bait using a stick and your set to go. Add a weight about 4" from hook

Hooker, ya lost track of the thread. What Wayne offers is correct, when talking about the strike king dip bait.
