How do you observe a fish other than going to Bass Pro or Cabelas and observing them in the aquarium?

My daughter and I observed a dozen LMB from the end of our line, to the stringer, to the fillet board, to the freezer today. They are very interesting creatures, to say the least....I observed them both with a beer in hand and without. That didn't seem to make any difference. They did seem to flop a little more when going from the stringer to the fillet board. We found that to be humorous..and a little sad at the same time. We may have to observe some more tomorrow.

Haven't been able to bring myself to eat any bass taken from public waters since I was a kid. Hybrid stripers that have been farm raised are edible, but not my fave.
Top of the food web predators tend to concentrate environmental contaminants, sometimes to unhealthy levels. Whatever contaminants are in the water can be concentrated up to 10,000 times in a bass. The process is called "bio-magnification" and works by the plants and plankton taking up small quantities from the water, whatever eats plankton or plants can concentrate the contaminants further. As you move up the web to predators such as bass and fish eating birds, contaminants can be concentrated to very high levels hence some waters having health advisories about eating fish from them.
If you eat your catch, best to know about the water it came from and the potential for contamination. At the very least, eating fish like bass should be limited to one serving a month or so unless you are certain that it has no harmful levels of toxins.
OTOH, I'd eat any bass from any Texas water before I ate a fish or shrimp from China.

Whenever I go to BPS I only notice two types of fish in the big tank. Those crappies never ever move from that one tree limb and the large alligator sulks at the bottom of the tank all day. The rest of the fish swim freely around the tank. I fry crappies/catfish and grill whites. Have not eaten a largemouth in some 20 years.

I haven't eaten LMB in years, but it is really good fried just like catfish. The meat is more flaky than catfish, kind of like a crappie.

I notice the same thing. Maybe they are mannequin fish. I also notice the lonely Gar on the left hand side.

I Prefer to let them go but if they float Largemouth bass is great to pan fry.
Pound per Pound Smallmouths are my favorite to catch.
I like to observe big Large mouth bass on the nest.
