I don't own one but I've read many times where they get slightly better mileage than the Ford trucks with the same engine.

own one with 267k on it.
father in law owns one with 380k on it.
client of mine owns one with 360k on it.
damn good motor, probably the best ford has ever made.
as for mileage, mine is a crew cab 4x4 running 33's, i get around 16-17 mpg on the highway.
cummins is a damn good engine too, only problem is they put them in dodges

bad mileage, but they are a powerhouse. the only good diesel ever put in a ford.
And they're made by international, not ford.

7.3 is the best diesel ford has ever used. 6.0 was junk and the 6.4 was a little better but terrible mileage with the DPF. Anyway if you need any help with performance parts i run a shop in san anton.

I have owed two 1 ton pick ups with a 7.3 in them both went over 350K miles with no issues. shoud be kicked for selling eihter. now faced with trying to find something to pull my travel trailer with and am scared of th 6.0's and 6.4's. There are an awfull lot of the 6.4,s with very lowe milage for a diesel for sale around

I've got a 2000 Excursion Limited 7.3 4wheel drive 97K miles.
In stock trim with stock tire size the truck would do around 18mpg on the road, 14mpg in town.
I added AFE air intake, 4" turbo back exhaust, and Edge Programmer. Now the truck will do 21 mpg+ on the road and 16 or so around town. That will depend on the wind and traffic and how heavy your foot is. The changes added a much better throttle response and made it much more fun to drive.
