I am used to jetty fishing a lot, say surf side, texas city dike or galveston south jetty. Went to SLP today but found it totally different from whatever fishing I am used to. Water is not deep. A lot of waves/currents. Saw bait fish everywhere but no bites from anything other than croakers and piggy perches. Tried top/bottomer and short/long casts with light/heavy gears. None worked well. Talked to other people and was told they got nothing big either.

Here is my question about SLP
1.Is it still a good fishing place to go?
2.What fish people catch over there?
3.What fishing to do there (bank, wade, boat)?
4.Does my jetty fishing gears still work there?

Many thanks.

was out there last Monday and will probably go again tomorrow. No expert on this area but found lots of ladyfish, croaker & piggy perch as well. Know there's better stuff there. Waded about 20 yrds from the shoreline and set up a rod holder & 12' surf rod in about 2' water. Threw out to what looked like deeper water and had action for most the time I was there. Currents are dangerous, but understand this can be a productive area but you must watch the drop offs. Was a 100 yds south of the bridge/galveston side, will try a little further out and may set up a little deeper next time

Make sure to wear a PFD when out there. Lots of people been sucked under out there and never fished again.

back before the hurricane i fished that twice with my dad in kayaks, we paddled out to the channel that runs under the bridge and waded and fished the drop off, got my first black tip there and some nice specs, with live shrimp under a cork, but its been a few years now..
