I have just recently gotten into crappie fishing. I fish Sam Rayburn, and in a couple trips Ive been averaging 5-10 fish per trip.
Most of my fish have come off stumps in 15-20feet of water on a small pearl colored panfish assassin (bass assassin bait) with a red jig head. does anyone have any colors or other jig that would be effective right now?
sorry for the broad question, im just starting out and dont know much.

For just starting out catching 10 fish per trip with limited knowledge you are doing great!!! I'd try something in Black/Chartruse or White/Chartruse. These colors work great here in North Texas. Also try a pink or red jig head along with the mentioned colors. Also go to www.finneytribe.com and order these colors in their Rocky Top jigs you'll love em. Very nice people to work with. Good Luck

I'd use any color combination as long as it's chartruese and something else. Seriously, white/chartruese works well in some lakes and balck/chartruese works well in others. I keep many colors but use one of those 2 colors 99% of the time. BTW, I use Rocky Top jigs. Solid body, can't beat them.

Even though I have not caught crappy, lol, I was reading that of course water color might be the only factor since crappy will be eating pretty much everything they can to fatten up for winter???

Down here in South Texas(lake CorpusChristi) blue and white is the go to color. I've caught them on most of the popular colors but blue and white is the best. White&chart is good also. The water at the lake is stained and never real clear. There is one fisherman raised on the lake and the only colors he has is blue & white and red & white. I caught 22 keepers friday on blue & white tubes with the spinnerbaker jigs. They worked great.
