Yes, it is rapidly approaching "that time" again at LC. Deep night bassing for now, and by Thanksgiving, CRAPPIE!

One sad note, however: The Texas Bar and Grill is no more! Gone, packed up, and shuttered down! I used to watch the Baseball playoffs and World Series through their plate glass windows and TV's that hung on the wall behind the bar, and during the summer they used to put live bands out on the patio on Friday and Saturday nights, so i would get some good R&B, and rock, while i was catching Bass and Cats! Not to mention some Friday Night party Eye Candy of the female variety!

In the last 3 nights, fishing roughly between 9:30 and 10:30 PM, I have averaged about 10 bass per night, and 6-8 bluegills and green sunfish. No crappie, cats or yellow bass- - - yet!

Fish are of consistent size and quality, and as ALWAYS there this time of year and at those hours of the night, are hitting 1/32 oz crappie tube jigs, on UNPAINTED jig heads, vertically fished at the mouths of underwater culverts!

Hit it again tonight. Wed, 10/13/'10, between 9:30 PM and 10:15 PM, with 1/32 oz UNPAINTED tube jig heads. Used Pumpkinseed/chartreuse and red/chartreuse skirts. Got LMB, Channel Cat, and Bluegills! Totalled 4 bass, 3 'gills, and 1 channel that i actually landed, had one on for a bit that looked to go in the 6-7 lb range, judging by the size of the head that came rolling out of the water when i finally got him turned!(cat).

I have done better, but I AIN'T COMPLAINING!

If u notice below the bass, the wind, fairly stout tonight, btw, had blown a lot of leaves and debris up into that corner of the culvert i was fishing and matted up the water surface pretty good. I punched holes in the debris and dropped the jigs down and WHAM!

Also caught fish in front of the patio tables of the now defunct Texas Bar and Grill.

Did the "trifecta" today! Elm Fork Midday, Bachman 30 minutes before work, and LC deep night. Found bass tonight, but it was slow, Fished from 9:30-10 PM and only caught 4 bass. Maybe the change in the weather shut em down, not sure.

Representative bass of the 4 i caught. Kinda disappointed.

got a question, I notice you always emphasize the UNPAINTED jig head...why is that? I have used both painted and unpainted, and havent noticed it making much difference in catches, maybe your experience is different? just curious...

" I have used both painted and unpainted, and havent noticed it making much difference in catches " i think you have answered your own question . some of the crappie anglers THINK colored heads are a must . i still believe if you put a jig in front of their nose they will whack it !

What Jess said! Some of these crappie aficionados go to great links to match head and body colors. I prefer unpainted, just because they are cheaper, and to prove it don't make no difference! That is why i try to get the jig in a pic, still in the fish's mouth, when possible.

A friend sent me these pics, via cell phone Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, from LC. Both caught between midnight and 2 am. DEEP NIGHTING IS WHERE IT'S AT!:

Caught on a minnow, 1st cast!: Dandy channel cat!

A hefty slab crappie in anyone's book:

That place, the deeper we get into the Fall, and closer to Winter, the better it gets. Quality moreso than quantity!

Life is good!
