Who here uses circle hooks for jug lines? I have always used J-hooks on my jugs but recently have considered circles due to the fact that there is no real hookset on a floating (no weight anchored to the bottom) jugline. Would the small resistance of pulling a noodle-type jug be enough to 'set' a circle hook and keep it hooked?
I'm just in search of a way of not coming home smelling like the devils armpit.....

Back to report. Seems like they did a better job of hooking the fish, especially the smaller ones that I figure were just eating the bait and not getting hooked. Also had one go about 10 pounds, so it seems they will get the job done.

we always anchor our juglines at tawakoni and yes the circle hooks set better. What i could not get used to is how large a hook you can use.
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
