Kat_man_do----Funny you mentioned that about your catch escaping from the wire basket...Similar situation happened to me a few years back, but I had a basket with about 10-12 crappie and was fishing off the bank. well when I drop the basket in the water it must have landed on a stump or rock and pushed the bottom in. ...needless to say I had no fish after awhile...leson learned here....TIE THE BOTTOM WITH WIRE! or even a large swivel

I was fishing at Cleburne lake early one morning, I was throwing a small single blade chartreuse/ white spinner bait, a 1/4 oz rattletrap,& a Baby1- chartreuse /black. I started out in the cove by the golf course in the lily pads, then all down the east bank almost to the boat ramp, then I fired up& went to the dam 7 fished all the way across to the flats on the west side, not even once getting a nibble! I kept seeing something coming to the surface every now & then to feed, so I looked at my graph to see the depth, it was 13 ft with a few bait fish showing is all, I threw the Baby1- out there & cranked it fast about 4-5 turns & let it flutter up when BAM! I thought I had a wall hanger on for sure! I fought that sucker about 10 minutes just to enjoy the fight, when I got it in the boat, I weighed a 93/4# yellow cat! Man that sucker fought good on that 7'6" rod! the very next cast in the same spot yielded a 2# channel cat & that was all the rest of the morning, I left to go home at 10:00am, the cats did not ever make it to the freezer! They were supper guest of mine! The next week I sold my boat & had my 1st back surgery the next week after that! I was on the water when the sun came up that morning, it is sure peaceful to wach everything start turning a light shade of pink, then it all starts to wake up, that is my favorite time of the day, any day!
Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

Okay -- I'll play. Back in the '50s before so many dams were built, we used to catch quite a few freshwater eels out of the Lampasas river and its watershed. Through the years I've had my share of strange catfhes including two water snakes, one alligator, a few bullfrogs, two great blue herons, one spinning rod and reel, one baitcasting reel, an anchor, a couple of homemade wooden boats, one 35 pound stingray on a hand line in Costa Rica, and an air hose in 100 feet of water near an off shore oil rig. But the most exciting thing I ever hooked was a big bad nutria that chewed up my hand pretty good when I foolishly tried to get the hook out.

I was fishing in a canal. There was some current and all of the sudden I heard the clicker go off. I was like Oh Hell Yeah!! I struggling to get it out the water. I saw something black coming out the water. I just pull a tire out the water.

Fishing off the back of the boat casting to a dock across the creek when a bird went and flew into my line. Apparently the line wrapped around it's leg because it was pulling line like crazy. I engaged the spool and the bird just fell out of the air. I swear it was the funniest thing you ever saw.

I caught a womans gold seiko watch at Canyon lake on a slab I also hung into a porpoise at Port O Conner when I was shark fishing. A smoking reel and 6 flips later she pulled off, It was amazing.

onec in corpus i caught a seagull that had picked up my freelined shrimp, that was a hell of a fight the thing took all of my line and flew huge circles around my head, than i was fishing in the spillway at whiterock lake, in dallas and caught a freshwater ell, that thing had more teeth than a gar, furthermore i was fishing a tank on one of our old leases in w texas and crawfish kept on pinching onto rubber worms that i worked slowly accross the bottom, i havnt cought crawfish like that since. everyone with thousands of hours on the water has cought snakes and trash, but it is the stuff that you would never figure on catching that gets me.
