I LOVE my spinning reels and use them to sand bass fish, and the guys fishing with me look at me like I have 3 ears. I'm I the only one that uses them the sand bass/hybrid fish? I carry 2 baitcasting reels with DD22 on them, but for slabs and Mepps I prefer spinning reels.

My wife has a 6 1/2 ft med action spinning rig w/ 10# P-Line in the boat that I use for 1/4 oz traps around lit docks at night or schooling sandies if she isn't with me. Its fun to hang a 5 lb hybrid on that rig! Other than that I use baitcasters.
A buddy of mine uses spinning rigs quite often, I'm sure he'll chime in pretty soon.

I like my spinning rig, I like to put braid and tie a flouro leader to it. I have caught some good fish on it and it has held up quite nicely to 17+ cats and hybrids. I like the drag on spinning gear better for some reason

I have a smaller boat so I only have 2 on hand.
A baitcast gives a lot better control and it is a lot easier to push the thumb bar than to open the bail and let the lure fall back to the bottom.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

Spinning reels are great for throwing light lures in swallow water. Give me a good bait caster any day when throwing heavy swim baits and slabbing. They give a lot more control and will out cast a spinning reel. I like to slab with my reel disengaged and my thumb on the reel. This way I can let out line as necessary when the boat moves around. It is easier to just press the button to disengage the reel than to have to use your other hand to flip the bail open. Spinning reels have their advantages though, I use to slab with a spinning reel with my finger on the line so I could feel the bite better. With high quality rods and line I dont need to do that anymore.

I keep 2 baitcasters and 2 spinning on the boat and just find myself grabbing the spinning reels for some reason.

This is another classic case of which are you more comfortable with and suits you best. For years all I had in my arsenal of gear was baitcaster's. Then I spent 5 years in the Marine Corp and was always stationed somewhere near the coast. I started doing alot of surf and bay fishing during that time. It didn't take long to see what the locals were working with see that my baitcasters could not throw near as far as the spinning gear. I slowly started fishing with spinning gear during that time....since then I have made a total switch to nothing but spinning gear. Spinning gear is much more comfortable in my hands then baitcasting gear. Like someone else had said, the drag systems do seem to be smoother. The weight of the reel hangs down under the rod as you hold it is a plus also...feels much more natural. I've yet to fish with anyone that can cast with a baitcaster as far as I can with a spinning outfit. They work much much better in the wind also. Plus fishing with very light baits they also work much better. In general a spinning outfit lets you enjoy your catch more it seems also. To each his own...but for me its spinning gear.

Not only do I use spinning reels I use light or UL setups. I even pulled DD22's with my light spinning rod, and caught 3 hybrids over 20 inches a few weeks ago. Spinning is the only thing I use.

Spinning reels are my first love. Rarely use the other types.

I carry half and half but there is an unsaid rule in my fishing that says the lightest pole catches the biggest fish. All of my hybrids over 9 lbs have been on spinning gear. Just gotta know how to do it. I agree it's also comfort. I can put a 1/4 oz bullet weight in a soup can from 50 yards with my spinning setup. baitcaster...not so much.
