Shimano Sahara 5000 +1 Penn Sargas +1 both will do the job. I have also used the Cabelas salt striker a while and it has worked for me. If u want a reel that will last u a life time the salt striker is not it. tho.

all star does not make surf rods but they do sell surf rod blanks for custom build rods, but then it will get expensive.

hey twin, the academy on 59 and kirby have the american rodsmith surf rods.

Thanks, sounds like American Rodsmith is the way to go. Been thinkin' about getting set up for somethin' besides the bay. Looked at some stuff a guy was selling on the side of the road. That salt air IS BRUTAL. His reels had never been used, and were still eat up with rust! rolfmao

you might have to call around different academy to see which one has the 10ft, were you plan on using baitcast or spinning reel for the surf setup?

Im gonna use a spinning reel. Not sure which one to go with. Its either a penn sargus or cabelas salt striker. I have the salt striker 4000. Not sure what size reel to go with for my surf setup.

If the baitcaster can cast further, which baitcaster would you recomend?

OR does anyone have any suggestions on a big water surf combo 10' for under $100? I rather spend the $ on my tackle for specs and flounders.

I think the 70 size reel and 9 or 10 ft rod combo plus 25 or 30 pound test line should be good enough for most bull reds and drums. I got a similar setup from Academy for less than $40. So far it works great.
