Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

If those f'ers ever send me some patch material I'm going to!
You get a yak with a hole... you weld!
However, I will add that the duct tape has held for the last month.

I have done a bit of plastic welding. Don't get the plastic too hot and scorch it.

Both my yaks are sand colored, but I'd bet alota folks could benefit from the pickle buckets. Anything that melts at the same temp as your yak will do. I use a tiny battery operated(3xAA) soldering iron(Weller BP645), about the size of an electric toothbrush. I repair most cuts, cracks and small holes in poly boats free. Filler material can be found in your trash, assorted colors available for free. Some files and sand paper clean it up nice afterwards. It took a bit of prak-tizing, but not really hard at all. Can be done in under one beer if its just a small crack

Check out mariner sails to see if they have scrap plastic lying around from rigging a kayak. At JerryB's we saved the disks from cutting out rod holders for welding.

The guy at Mariner used to do plastic welding, not sure if he still does. Maybe Chris was his name.. I forget.

Chris at Mariner still does very good plastic welding.
If you have Hobie, call them and they will send you some to work with that matches your yak for free.
Mariner might have some scrap they would share.
Be careful if you try the hot air method, when the plastic gets soft it goes almost to thin liquid instantly. I have a pretty good touch, but I still make a backing plate and cover it with aluminum foil before I start. I also try to position the weld as close as possible to horizontal. I still have to do some recovery work.

I use a KC Welder Pro from Arizona Tools. It looks like a soldering iron with a flat rounded head. It works great. I weld a lot of boats. Most manufacturers will send you scrap material. You have to pay a couple bucks shipping. There are some good instructional videos online.

I wore a hole in the back end of my yak, from dragging it across gravel bars. I plastic welded it with some plastic insulator tubing made for high tensile fencing (left over from a job) & used my oxy/propane torch as the heat source. I also put a skid plate on after that so i wont do it again
