I'm going to Canyon Lake next weekend and taking the boat. We're staying at Lake Point Resort. Any tips on where and how to fish?

That point right there where you will be staying is a good place to start. I've stayed at the resort many times in the past. It's a long slopeing point that tapers out into deeper water. White bass and black bass favor both sides of that point. With a normal southeast wind you can motor up to the very tip of that point, and using the trolling motor, or just drift if you don't have one, but stay out from the bank about forty yards or a good casting distance, and casting back toward the bank for black bass early, and late. As the sun starts to rise fish more off the point. Also the point directly out from there on the other side, is good for stripers as well as all those major lake points in that area. Good striper and white action. Look for the birds, and if you have electronics on board use them in the area of the hump near the dam. Heading toward the dam you will notice the island. That area is well known as a striper hang out. Watch for any baitfish activity and you'll be in the right spot. That area is right in the middle of where the fish activity is. For catfish the cove to the left of the resort around the corner has dead trees and a good defined channel. Caught some nice cats back in there. Setting jugs along the shoreline to the right of where your staying would also produce. Only problem is if your not going to jug at night I wouldn't put any out because of all the jet ski activity. You will be in the thick of them because of where you are staying.

Just one more cast!

Jimbo,

That's great information! Thanks so much!

I have a downrigger, would it be any good trolling for stripers around the island close to the dam?

If you are going to troll do it very early or late at night lots of recreational traffic during the day.
