We caught this fish yesterday out at lake Whitney on a trotline. We also had three other fish on the line that were normal. We did even notice this til we got home. Just threw them inthe live well and went chassing the sandbass that started schooling. The lumps are not tumors. That is its spine. It's ribs were not formed right either. sorry about the pictures frist time adding any try to resize them next time. who_knows

I have caught similar fish. I think it survived injury early in life - like getting bitten.

Looks like some kind of Scholiosis or something. Probably just a genetic defect.

It could be a genetic defect like starless said, or like others have mentioned they were all prolly injured early in life, from many factors.

If it was some kind of injury early in its life, I think it would have left scarring of some kind. I would have to agree on the notion that it is a genetic defect or something of that nature.

You might, man I hate saying this, send the pic to A & M... I sent some pics to them while in country to figure out what we were catching. They were able to answer our questions. I may still have the e-mail address. Let me know if your interested. and No, I am not a graduate smile

If it is genetic, don't catch and release them... Keep them.

I see minnows swimming next to our green light with crooked tails all the time.
