I have a Yamaha 2002 200 HP Vmax. Most of the time it works perfectly but at times on the water I will get ready to go to another spot and it just will not crank it turns over and over and never fires off. I have tried and looked at the kill switch and the gear shift to no avail and sometimes it will crank within 5 minutes and other times it will not crank for an hour. It seems like a wire is loose but the last few times it has happened I have done nothing but wait a few minutes. This has been going on for about 3 months and the problem doesn't happen every time I go out actually most of the time it performs properly. Once it cranks it runs normal. I just don't understand what could be wrong with it. I have noticed that it is using more oil than it used to but don't know how since all that is done automatically.

Help if you have any Ideas.

check the fuel lines real good for air leaks, any loose connections should be tightened.
fuel filters next replace any you have.
does it start if you choke it? how recently were the plugs changed? it sounds like a flooding/no fuel issue to me.

Sounds like a bad fuel bulb.

We have seen some of the Yamaha keys switches go bad causing this problem.

I have changed filters and checked connections before posting.. Sorry I didn't mention that before. I have also checked the plugs, They seem fine and are only 3 months old. I have a hard time blaming the plugs because it runs great most the time.

Tommy, That sounds like what I'm facing with this because there seems to be no other explanation and I have felt that it was something electrical from the start and have checked every wire that has to do with starting the motor and everything seems fine. Can you PM me a price on the key switch or do I need to call my local shop?

Thanks

Jody Kea

If fuel bulb is replaced, make sure you get the one that meets all ethanol resistant EPA guidelines..
