Joe pool 13 incher The way to communicate with the fish is to drop them a line. To argue on a fishing boat is to have de bait.

Ah "The Ever Elusive Yellow Bass"!! Many anglers have searched their entire lives for these magnificent creatures and have failed. But, you happen to be in luck, because I am part Ever Elusive Yellow Bass!! Find water that is 5' to 10' deep, preferably on a ridge, hump or flat and drop a 3/4 oz slab. If it feels like a machine gun hitting your line, BINGO, you have just been hit by the Ever Elusive Yellow Bass!!!!

Why do you want to catch yellow bass? Most of the ones you'll catch will be too small to eat, but they do get big enough. Lake record at Cedar Creek is over 13 inches long and about 1 1/3 pounds. I've caught several lately in the 11 1/2 to 12 inch size. If you can catch some of the bigger ones, they are very good tasting fish - I rate them right behind crappie. The ones I catch are in the same places where I fish for white bass. Back in the early 1990's there were so many yellow bass in Richland Chambers that they schooled on the surface in large numbers - like white bass. That ended with a big fish kill in 1995. But it was somehing to behold - the average size was well big enough to eat - say 10 inches.

Ray hubbard has ( millions and millions ) of them it seems!!!! T wak has some of the largest I've ever caught.
And yes they are very good to eat. Just drop a slab on top of a hump or point, and like nitro said feels like a machine gun.
Dont be surprised if you're lure is bigger than the fish , happens alot. I would say good luck, but you really don't need any for the elusive yellow!!!

I believe they are the only fish listed as a gamefish by TPW that has no limit on size or numbers.

It's so easy to catch yellow bass, even a caveman can do it! They are a pain but they are good tasting!
I do enjoy a good Squirt now and then.

ksmak02 http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/yellowbass/Yellow Bass (Morone mississippiensis) Illustration TPWD Other Names Striper Description The meaning of the word Morone is unknown. The species epithet mississippiensis refers to the Mississippi River from which the species was first described. Although yellow bass are sometimes confused with white bass or young striped bass, there are several distinguishing characteristics. First, the belly may take on a yellow color, from which the species derives its common name. Second, unlike other temperate bass, the two lowermost stripes are distinctively broken just posterior to the middle. Also, the second and third anal spines are approximately equal in length. Distribution Although native populations do exist in areas of Oklahoma, Texas, and Mississippi, the species was primarily restricted to the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana. Introduced populations ocurr as far west as Arizona, as far north as Wisconsin and Iowa, and as far east as central Tennessee. In Texas, yellow bass range from the Red River south to the San Jacinto drainage. Other Yellow bass are often found in schools. Like white bass, they may be captured using spoons, spinners, or live minnows. Due to their small size, averaging only about half a pound, and slow growth rate they are not highly sought by most anglers (a trophy fish may weigh one pound or less).
