was out on braunig yesterday, saw a big fish floating on top so i stopped to look and see what it was. was the strangest thing i've ever seen. was about 45in long and a solid 30+ pounds. wasn't a redfish, or anything i've ever seen. had real pointed fins and a big mouth with a rounded nose. anyone know what it might have been? i know they found a strange floater out there a few years back, turned out to be some kinda over grown baitfish, anyone know anything about that, anywhere i might still find a picture?

They stocked Nile perch in Braunig several years back as well as Tarpon. The big mouth and pointed fins could it have been a tarpon? Not sure what a Nile perch looks like either, and they were supposed to get pretty big, but that's just a thought you might check into it and find a picture to see if that is your floater.

Calaveras was the only lake that the Hybrid of the orange mouth corvina and speckled trout where stocked in. None in Braunig to my knowledge. The Nile perch were stocked in a small number. If it were a Nile perch from the original stocking it surely would have been bigger than the 30+ pounds since they were stocked around the late 70's or mid eightys. Offspring maybe would be more like it if they were capable of reproduction. Sure wish he could have gotten a picture of that floater.....But then Mr. Wiggles wouldn't have posted his picture of that Corvina.

We know that it isnt any kind of corvina, and it isnt a nile perch, sorry we couldnt get any pictures, it was dark and we spotted while drifting. We tried to take it back in with us but it stank really bad, and we didnt have a carmera.

I don't know wahts better the corvina or the lady holding the fish. lol I don't have a clue what kind of fish it could be. How long ago did you find it? Might go take a look if it was recent.
