I went to Grapevine 2 weeks ago and only caught 3 bass in 4 hrs, but they were a largemouth, spot, and smallie. Never caught all 3 species in one day before. None were big, but I thught that it was pretty cool.
I would attach pictures - but I am a newbie and can't figure out how to attach them from my hard drive. (I don't have a URL to post from)?? I will post this and try to re-post with the pictures.
I am heading back out there this weekend. Everything I was catching all summer was on Main Lake rocky points in 12-20' of water, but I assume that they are moving back into the coves and pockets now.
Does anyone know if the shad have moved shallow out there?
I am taking a buddy who doesn't fish much, and I would like to get us on quantity fish over quality, so that he has a good time.
Thanks!
What would Gary Dollahon do if he were here today?

Yea I pulled the trifecta a few months ago. All spots and smallies were about 10-12" but it was cool to catch the smallies. I had never caught any before. I haven't been out there since the water came up and it cooled off but I can guarantee you that the shad have moved up.

You've got gvine, bridgeport, whitney, and possum kingdom to name a few that I know of. I'm sure these other guys can tell u more lakes that have them.

Smallies on the Vine have been showing up much more often. TPWD has been stocking them and from all appearance, the smallies have done very well and are quite healthy!

sapper,
if you want to get on some good smallies (like your used to up north), head to texoma and fish from mid-lake to the dam. Texoma holds some monster smallmouth up to 6-7 pounds. When you locate some, often you will catch smallmouth up to 3-4 pounds fairly consistently and you will pull in a 5 plus every now and again.

Sounds like erie, but maybe without the 4 foot rollers... Just checked texoma on navionics, looks like she's deep. Drop shotting deep rocks, I assume?
