John, I use mono nets simply because because of the cost, and I can repair them by just tying them back together with some 20lb mono. You WILL end up tearing the net sometime or another. Hope this helps. Got them from wally world... (And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do)Nice

mono for me. Guess it is personal preference but that is what I like. One point to consider is if you cast from a boat the nylon net will be soaked with water and get the inside of your boat wet, whereas the mono net does not hold as much water.

To repair holes in a cast net, I use small stips cut from panty hose. They hold up just fine and since they are so soft they don't snag or hang up when you throw. Just my 2 cents, try it and see what you think.

I am trying to throw a 5' mono and can't seem to get it to open. Anybody got a suggestion? I am about to throw it without the cord around my wrist.

Try one of the super-spreader nets with the acu-throw ring from walmart. I got one of the largest ones a few months ago and they work great. The net has a metal ring at the top just below the horn that you hold while you throw. You can throw it one handed as well. Look for the cast nets at wally world that come in the round white plastic container. Derek
