So I have never been fond of anchoring up in deep water and fishing. I've always preferred to fish shallow water, or drift deep water. I am trying to learn how to anchor up and fish now.

When i anchor the boat up i will put the nose of the boat into the wind, and tie my anchor to my front eye of the boat. I cant seem to keep my boat from doing a 180 degree sway. This drives me absolutely insane and is about to make me quit anchoring up for good. How do you keep your boat somewhat still?

If the wind is coming out of the north and i put the nose of my boat into the wind , my boat will sway so much back and forth that the boat sway from pointing North, to all the way east, and then west, and then back again. I cant keep even a remotely tight line. I'll go from a tight line to having 20ft of slack just because of the boat sway.

Help!

Sometimes when I don't have a straight wind, I use two anchors one at the front and 1 at that back

make you some portable tees. about 16 inches of 1 1/2 pvc pipe with a ring, hose clamped to it. tie it to the front and back of boat. slide a 10 ft pc of 1 1/2 conduit or 3/4 gas pipe thru pvc.drive pipe into bottom. might want to also put out an anchor if wind is really high. these will keep you from swinging around in water up to about 6 ft deep

Two anchors would really help. One in front one in back and keep them crossed, instead of on the same side of boat.

I always double anchor. Thats why I have a 200 foot anchor rope for front anchor and right now a 150 foot rope for rear. I don't use all of it but I will drive past the spot I want to fish and then drop anchor, drift well past it and drop rear anchor and pull both tight in between.

Forgot to specify that a good box anchor up front and a lighter anchor in back work good for me

we actually park the boat broad-side of the wind and use 3 anchors! 1 big box anchor in the center of the boat on the windy side and 2 smaller anchors off of the stern and the bow! keeps her nice and steady!

I use an homemade claw anchor up front and a box in rear. I have less anchor rope in rear is why. Box will hold with less rope. I haven't finished my other box anchor yet.

I'm currently looking for some box anchors.
I have 1 but its HEAVY and way too big for my boat. I bet it weighs 30 or 40lbs. I'd like to get 2 that are about 15lbs each.

You any good at welding or have any buddies that are? Thats all you need, way cheaper then buying. You can go to and steel shop and get some flat iron and make 2 for way less then it would cost to buy just one...

Take the old heavy one to a machine shop and just have them drill holes in it. That will take alot of the weight out but still the same foot print size for hold.
