You either have plugged up carbs or lost spark on one or more of the cylinders. Another thing that we are seeing a lot of lately is the inside of fuel line breaking down and closing off the fuel supply,

That's what we've been thinking. Changed out the bulb and it still won't stay pressurized. We got it on plane ONCE today and wouldn't get back on plane again. I opened up the cover on the carbs and the carbs looked clean, but there was gas everywhere and it was dripping down the motor when I had the motor trimmed down.

Had same problem with an 89 evinrude. Carb cleaning fixed the problem.

These carbs LOOKED clean, from the outside when I took the cover off. How do I clean the carbs without taking anything apart? If that's possible. smile

Dave there are several things that can cause your problems... The carbs have to be taken apart to be cleaned with cleaner and compressed air.. shoot me a PM I might be able to help you out..I live close to Belton lake and have a lot of free time... The leaking gas is not good...I would not try to run it until that is fixed.....

Theu fuel lines seemed ok. The guy I bought it from said the carbs had been cleaned but take that for what it's worth. anything else I should check?

Carbs are propley the problem, Maybe a hole in the fuel pump diapham.

Check the spark , What about a compression check when you bought the boat?

Sounds like a powerpack to me. I've heard that the #1 symptom of powerpack problems is the boat running fine at low rpm and then cutting out right when you get to the rpm/speed necessary to get on plane. I could easily be wrong, but that's my guess.

only has one tank(gas tank) if that's what you're referring to. As for the power packs, how would you test those? Kinda outboard retarded. LOL I'm gonna check the compression today, if I can't figure it out, it MAY be headed to Marine Outlet and hitting myself in the wallet. eeks

Your fuel bulb will not pump up and you have fuel leaking somewhere: from your description. First pull the cowling and look at all fuel hoses and connections while pumping the fuel bulb. A fuel leak will cause this.

So a fuel leak will cause it to bog down when trying to get on plane by not giving it enough gas to get on plane? We also have a VERY hard time starting her in the morning or when she's cold. That could cause this as well.?
