Fished Sat. and did OK. However, coincidentally (?), the fish would stop biting when large cast nets would crash into the water repeatedly about 15 ft. behind me. I'm all for catching your own bait, but have a little respect and do it where people are not fishing please. Also, if you can't keep your dog out of the water, leave it at home. I'm pretty sure the enormous splash of a large, hyper labrador is not good for the fishing. Everytime the dogs and cast nets hit the water, the few fish on my stringer would nearly jump out of their skin. Come people, have a little common sense and courtesy.

fishytx,RiverT,nellayor...

It was a pleasure finally meeting ya'll down there Friday. And sorry I didn't make it earlier as I had planned. It was actually a little after 4:00 before I started fishing...I wound-up with seven keeper males on pink grubs.
And gave those to RiverT, to add to his (7 or more I believe) he had caught.
Not sure exactly how many fishytx caught from the time I started fishing, but he definitely was out-fishing (me and my pink grubs) with (his white crappie jigs) rolleyes
(I believe) he said he wound-up with 25 for the day...And not sure if that was counting his throw-backs or not...which (he considers to be 12" and under) wink being he's lives close to Sommerville, and is so used to catching those big monsters in Yegue Creek. smile laugh

The fish were definitely in there,no doubt. After a good hour of fishing with no luck.I started seeing a lot of fish moving around all over the place and a little later quite a few were busting the surface.A lot of times I could see them following my jig.But they just wouldn't take it.
Just one of those days the whites were being picky or just plain stubborn.
Anyway,I didn't go this weekend and it seems with Grubs post, it was pretty crowded as I expected.

RiverT-I didn't get or notice your message you left Saturday, until Sunday. And for some reason it showed up as a (no number call).
I was curious if you went or not and how you did.Grub said he (did Ok) whatever that means. And not sure if 3535 went back Sunday.
Anyway,I might be trying it again this afternoon.I'm figuring it will be pretty much over by the weekend. If it isn't already.
I'll make sure and post on how I do and how many I catch and what I actually catch them on.The next time I go.

Hi FF40, I got the itch again after having such a great time with everybody on Friday. I wanted to try some of the new techniques out. I saw 3535 down there... they were really slow again, there were alot of dogs and people making alot of noise. I got 4 in a couple hours on a yellog jig on the bottom. I still saw alot of white bass rumbling on the surface so they were more interested in spawning again. Anyway great to meet everybody and thanks for the fish and food time

RiverT- Thanks for report.
And good to here(at least)there still in there. And you got a few.
Also, glad you enjoyed the extra fish on Friday.I've been trying for years to catch-em already fileted, but still no luck. laugh

Sure sounds like it was definitely crowded Saturday. There must have been someone that saw the 1 man that had caught a big stringer, using river-minnows.And fishytx catching those whites one after another late that afternoon on white crappie-jigs.And you and me catching a few on 1"pink-grubs.
So they called all there family and friends. And told them to come down there Saturday. And bring there cast-nets (to catch river-minnows) and all there dogs down there(to just flush the whites right out of the water)in case they still couldn't catch-em on the minnows.Being they couldn't figure out, what other lures to use with a rod and reel to catch them on ... And Walmart and Academy were all out of 1"pink-grubs and 1/32 oz. white crappie jigs. wink
Sorry but I couldn't help myself. laugh laugh

Well....anyway....,
Thinking and writing all this stuff about fishing and what-not, has gotten me an itch now...So I'm going to head there now and try it for an hour or 2.
And at least I want have to worry about big motorboats, skiers and jet skis where I'll be fishing wink :p

Sounds like you guys had a good time. Sorry Rich and I didn't get to hook up with you guys on Friday, but whites were biting decent at Medina and we had access to a fishing shack...thanks Terry. I'm sure we will have other opportunities to meet and fish in the near future. Here are a few pics from Medina.

Chuckles-Nice pics and looks like a pretty sweet place ya'll were at.I'm assuming that's the Medina River.
I fished Reimers yesterday 5:30 till dark and caught 12 total(all males) on my Pink on Pink rig...(1/16oz.pink jig-head with a 1"-pink curly-tail grub.10 were keepers, and I kept 8 of those that were 12"-14". wink
The water was about the same level as Friday, but there was a lot less current. And I caught most fish in a few spots were there's still was some decent current.Could still see a lot of fish moving around. And were busting the surface pretty could about an hour before dark. But still had to work jig real slow to get them to hit hard.
Had a dozen or more short strikes(maybe small ones). But very frustating to say the least.
I'll go back tommorrow and/or Thursday afternoon hopefully. And maybe Friday. But not sure about this weekend.

FF40, I had ten on the stringer when you arrived. The bite was very slow. It didnt pick up till about the time you got there. I caught my limit-plus. Dont know how many I threw back, but I would guess I caught at least 40, if not a little more that day. In nine hours of fishing, thats not a very good day, but it was a lot of fun, and thats what its all about.

RiverT, I like what you said in your last post. You mentioned, that you were trying out new techniques. That is the first step into becoming a better fisherman, and catching a lot more fish than those around you. Fishing in a body of water with current requires a totally different style of techniques. Not sure if anyone picked up on how I was fishing Reimers the other day or not, but I would throw the bait to the other side, never reel it in, and let it start sinking and jigging it all the time while it was drifting down stream. I was all so changing out the weights of jigs, depending on how strong of current I was in at the time. Never used anything greater than a 1/32 oz. jig, but I look back now, and wish I had tried a 1/16 oz. in the stronger current. I think it would have allowed me to get the bait into the strike zone a lot quicker. Just something I thought about after the fact.

Chuckles, I had my camera with me the last two trips to Reimers and sure wish I had taken some pictures, so I could have posted a few to let everyone see how awesome this place looks. It looks more like a trout stream than anything. All most everyone is in chest waders, wading around fishing. There are a lot more fly fisherman out there these days than I've ever seen before. It has vertical rock walls on both sides of the river. Its a canyon with lots of trees and a river running through it basically. The water is very clear, for the most, and you can see the fish.

Hello Fishytx and FF40, I was definately trying to learn something from you guys down there. I have been catching White Bass in the spring since a kid. However it was all on the Wolf River in Wisconsin. It is a huge river system with big deep water and the bite changes daily. Over the years I have figured out alot of techniques that work on that river. The Pedernales is a whole different story although fishing for the same species. I have found it much harder to catch White Bass there than the Wolf River, but I have only fished Reimers few times. The fishing I have observed at Reimers is more of a finesse thing... the fish do seem to be rather discerning in what they will hit. Anyway thanks for taking the time to show me something new.

FF40 I would consider going out Thur or Friday if you are going. Especially if you go late like you did yesterday. I couldn't get out there til 5 or so after work.

Fishytx-I tried a 1/32th and a 1/16th white crappie-jig a little bit on Monday. But didn't have any luck. Also tried 1"white and chartreuse, and yellow curly-tails...still no luck.So went back to the 1"pink curly-tail grub. I was using pretty much using the same technique as you were talking about,on all baits I tried in the(lot-less)current that day.
But one factor I'm sure that makes a difference and my most success with the pink-grub...Is probally, I just have more confidence with it and will work it slower.Or basically, just with more effort.Which I believe in most cases, can make a big difference.Regardless of what color or type of lure your using. And if it ain't broke don't fix-it... wink laugh
Anyway,I'm going down there a little earlier today and not sure how late I'll stay.Planning on trying upstream a little bit to see if there's some that have moved up farther, hopefully some females. With the less-current and the little bit warmer weather and sunshine... cool

RiverT...E-mail me or call me with a number I can reach you.And I'll let you know if I go tommorrow evening.Or I'll try to e-mail and/or post,if I do.

FF40, you're right about confidence.
Confidence = Success--Stick with the pink on pink.
Good luck and hope you catch some today.

RiverT--A few more trips out to Reimers and you'll figure out what works best for you. It just takes time.

RangerR, thanks for the web sites. I looked at most of them. That's some cool stuff. Two weeks ago when I was down there, I stopped off at the rock climbers parking area, got out and walked around just so I could see what in the heck was over there, because I see a lot of vehicles parked there all the time. I think there are a lot more rock climbers going out there than fisherman these days. Who knows, Milton may some day change his sign to read (Reimer's rock climbing grounds).

After looking over the sides of the cliff where they have there anchor bolts tied in, I know I'll stick to fishing, because it's a lot safer.
