i use 30lb test and 6oz spider weight with 14/0 mustad sport circle hook..i usually use fresh cut mullet chunk, whiting, croaker, and shad, they will all work for bull reds.

Not sure if this helps but I now learned that I should use a glove or wrap a little tape around my index or middle finger depending on which one you cast with on spinning reel. I went to cast out with a 6oz spider... flipped the rod as hard as I could and watched the line unspooling... thinking it was going out far and then WHAM... line wrapped around my finger as spider weight was still out in mid-flight and it came to a dead stop... because it wrapped around my finger. I thought I lost my nosepicker until I looked down and all I saw was blood. The line had cut into my finger deep but I still got it. Got my nosepicker back.

on a 10ft surf rod, I use 30lb test line & 4 oz spider weights. the bigger the weight, the more expensive they get. 1/0 - 3/0 circle hooks. get the hooks for salt, the other kind will rust. if I'm lazy, i'll use the store bought mono leader with the double swivels for hooks and clip for the weight. Otherwise I'll tie my own. live or cut mullet, piggy perch, or croaker. this time of year you can catch the mullet in the surf with a cast net pretty easy. between the 2nd & 3rd gut is where I have the best luck for bulls. If you can find a "cut" in between the "gut" is good for reds & trout. green water for trout. reds don't seem to mind murkier water. Last, unless you like to hold your rod and reel, get a 4-5 ft long rod holder.

Oh, don't forget the Coronas!

Shut up and fish!

Your leader shouldn matter much as redfish have poor vision. Cut menhaden(Shad) works best. 20-30lb braided line with 40-50lb mono/ flouro leader. Use anything from 4/0-7/0 circle hooks. Those walmart/academy premade double drop rigs are fine. The size of yor weight should depend on the current. If it's bad, then you may want to use 4-6oz. If the current isn't ripping then 2-4oz is fine. Cast as far as you can and wait....... (this is where the corona will come in handy) Good luck and post a report and let us know how you did!

Is the surf on 61st street a good place to try? Or should I try the jetties?

I use #12 circle hooks, steel dropper rig, plenty of weight ( spider) and mullet, either cut fresh dead or live finger mullet. You wont catch as many little hardheads with the big circle hook. 20-25 lb test mono casts farther than heavier line too.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
