I almost got bit by a water moccasin about a month ago. It came within 6 inches of striking my right ankle. It taught me to be very aware of my surroundings when I'm outdoors.

I was building a shed over in East Tx one day and got all my holes dug and posts set except the one in the center. I had my hands all over near the ground measuring with the tape measure and had to kick at a vine/bush cause it was right where I needed to put my last hole. Turned around to pick up the post hole digger and I felt something hit me on my calf. I looked around and didn't see anything. Then it moved. This one was at 2-1/2 feet long which is big for a copperhead. Thank god for cowboy boots.

We have had FIVE on our back porch in the last 6 weeks. We have killed 3 and 2 got away. I HATE THEM!!! They are bad this year. A girl in this area got bit last night when she came home from church...stepped on it when she got out of her car. They had to careflight her. Havent' heard anymore.
As a matter of fact I do fish like a girl!

Wow. That sucks. Can you provide some details about the incident? He was camping and walking through the woods at night. He never even saw the snake. And yes he went to the Dr.

My neighbor got tagged by a copperhead in July, when she stepped out on her porch one evening. The ER doc told her she was number 22 at Denton Regional for the month of July. June was a record month for snake bites and he said July was expected to beat June's record at that time. Spent three days in the hospital because of the swelling in her leg.
He is truly a sick individual.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I killed one under the small storage bin we keep near the back porch for the kids outdoor toys. I found a clutch of hatched eggs near some of the bins in the garage and it freaked me out a little. It was about 8 inches long and rather pizzed before I hit it with the hoe. Hate to kill em, but cant be around the kiddos.
