I ain't losing sleep either way unless its in a tournament. I hardly mess with weighing anything less than 7-8lbs. If a guy's estimate is off and he had fun catching it I could care less what he says it weighs. No one is being hurt by it at all. I just try to worry about the ones that end up in my boat on my rod.

I had one of those $20 Berkley Digital scales that I was questioning so I weighed a 10 pound dumbell and 3 different times and it said 8 something each time. I've got one of those Berkley scales too. I checked in once on a 5 lb dumbell, and it was close, but I might just check it again. I guess it's always better to leave the digital scales at home so the fish we catch will be bigger . . .

Some of us need to tell what the weights are out loud while looking in a mirror. Only then post it on TFF!!

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Some fish are big boned. That's why they're the same lenght and 4lbs heavier.

I wish bass fishermen would get the Pinocchio effect when they tell thier big fish stories, then we would all be able to tell who's telling the truth or lying.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

I had one of those $20 Berkley Digital scales that I was questioning so I weighed a 10 pound dumbell and 3 different times and it said 8 something each time. I guess you get what you pay for because since then I've bought the more expensive double sided Berkley scale and it seems to be a lot more accurate.

You have to believe the weights... after all if it's on the internet, it must be true!

Do most people that post pictures of fish and their weights here actually weigh the fish, or do they just estimate? The reason I'm asking is that a lot of the 7 to 9 pounders posted here look like 5 pounders that I actually weigh.
I really might need to have my scale checked because admittedly, I've caught five pounders that looked a lot bigger to me, but my scale said otherwise. Ah, just congratulate them and dont worry about it. Yes, alot of people overstate the size of their fish but who cares, what does it hurt. Its not worth arguing about or ruining someones time as they are trying to share their prized fish to us. Just let em have their fun! However, they will get their bubble bursted when they start fishing tournys and start seeing what a real 8 lber actually looks like. I was amazed over how far off my estimations were when I first started fishing tournys. I learned a new found respect for how big even a ligt 5 lber is! However, these days I am starting to underestimate my fish bcause I always try to not get to hyped up before weigh-ins, plus it keeps me fishing when I think I need more weight. My last toruny and Falcon I had a 30 lb sack and a 10.6 that won big bass. Going to the weigh-ins, I onnly though I had about 25 lbs and that my big fish was only about 8 lbs. It is exciting when you have more weight than you thought!

I can take a picture of the same 8# fish and make it look like a 5 pounder or a 10+. And, you wouldn't know by looking at the pic that I was trying to make it look big or small. There's an art to taking fish photos.
