Can anyone tell me how the hybrids and sandies are doing on Cedar Creek? I am planning a trip out there next weekend and am going to be looking for sandies, hybrids, and crappie. I would appreciate any help I can get, I haven't been there in a year or so. Thanks...

I have 5 trips schedule next week on CC so should have some kind of an idea as to what's happening. Early look for either a lot of boats together, or watch for Cowbirds eitehr working over the water or sitting next to the bank tht usually means that something has happened there or will soon. during midday eitehr burn slabs or use the dreaded hell/pet. Either will work, trolling will cover more water.

I have a weekend place at CC and fish it most every week. seem to have the best luck in the flats between crappie lsland and the dam. hellpets work well, but caught three saturday, 4,5, 11 lbs., on a jetdiiver with a silver slab. trolling works best for me, 15' to 25' water, with rig let out about 15, 16 seconds. I've caught the larger ones between 9 and 11 am. Had two break off 20lb. leader at the boat. I'll try them again next week
Good Luck!

There's a hump straight out from Sunny Glen. It's out from the 13th column counted from the North side of the bridge. There's a 13 painted on the bridge, very hard to miss. It tops at about 17' of water. Not always fish there, but you're literally right there so it's worth a try. Several good points between Sunny Glen and the main lake. Keep your eye on your fish finder.
Last Saturday we did quite well in the area caughtacouple described. Our Hell-Pet rigs were running at about 15' and the bigger fish were on the sides of humps in 17-21. We also caught a 4lb hybrid.

Saturday AM, we caught schooling fish at the south end of Key Ranch and the flat south of Crappie Island. 4" chartreuse sassy shads worked very well for the larger sandbass and hybrids. We trolled hellpets later for about an hour and continued to catch fish. Watch the white birds very closely. Sometimes, it looks like they are diving for bait, but they are only trying to steal a meal from a cormorant.

A jetdiver is a plastic apperatus that takes your bait down to a prescribed depth. They are available in diffrent depths, 20', 30' ect. I found them at Academy. Work pretty much the same as the hellbender in a hellpet rig.

Guys; I really appreciate all of the help. I will put your suggestions to the test and see what happens. If any of you plan on being around there this weekend maybe you can stop by sunny glenn and we can swap stories over something cold to drink. I will be in an older 18ft Ranger 2-tone grey on grey. Thanks alot. Hope to see you there.

I was also in that boat show Saturday morning. I caught a 6 lber in that mass of boats and I watched a pontoon boat with downriggers catch 4 large hybrids, simultaneously. Their screaming almost chased the fish away.
I plan to be on the lake this weekend also. Key Ranch is a good place to start watching for the activity. If you stay on the eastern edge of Key Ranch at daybreak, you can see south to Crappie Island and north to Merimac. This will provide you a good viewing spot for birds and surface activity.
I will look for you and your boat.

I counted 21 boats out there Saturday morning in front of crappie island. Before the crowd got there when there were probably 6-8 boats, the fish would surface for a minute and atleast 2-3 boats would crank up and drive right into them. Ofcourse pushing the school down they would catch one or two and by the time the other fisherman with trolling motors got there the activity would be done and the fish gone to another spot. I finally left the crowds with my customers and began trolling and we picked up another 25 or so within the next hour or two. The crowds are amazing on CC this time of year. Its too bad the folks that just drive right into the schools dont have any idea that there scaring the fish off. If they would only drive up wind of them if they dont have a trolling motor or use there trolling motor everyone could catch more. Hybrids of all fish are very spooky as it is. You add a running motor and the sound of a prop under the water they are sure to scatter. Anyway we had a fun trip and landed one hybrid right at the 10lb mark. We released every fish caught, which is very unusual for a guided trip. Anyway I was impressed they didnt want to keep any. Oh well till next time good luck and good fishin!
