I decided to try my patience factor with my two stepsons yesterday since it was such a pretty day. They are 11&9 and haven't caught many fish because they get bored too easy.Well we were over at Mustang Park and they had minnows on and they were just about to start the usual "i'm bored, when are we gonna go?" stuff when the sandies started schooling right in front of us!!!!Both of there rods almost ended up in the lake and i was throwing a lil roadrunner and we all three hooked up at once!!Mass chaos.....lol....but it was well worth it i couldn't get minnows on fast enough after that,......then as usual some idiot in a boat ran wide open threw them and they were gone ...then i had to explain about the a-hole factor to the boys.....lol...we ended up with eight in about 10 mins. but i think i ended up with two good fishing buddies....they can't wait to go again and i can't either....the look on kids faces when they catch fish like that is priceless

I assume they were in the shallow water there. It stays about 5 feet out of casting distance and then drops off, but that is a pretty good area. I have seen folks wade out and fish as well with boats off that point, but I never run real fast thru there, especially if there are bank anglers, same thing on the Rocky Creek shoreline. If they were headed N, and going to Rocky creek, maybe the hit a stump, cause it is pretty stumpy in there if you do not know where you are going. I was hoping to sneak out yesterday as well, but did not, maybe I can do it today, depending on how windy it is. If the wind is blowing into that shoreline, that can be a pretty good area this time of year late in the day. Glad you got some fish and your patiance was not tested too much, I have a stepson and he was a handful when I started him out fishing at 10. Thank goodness for surfacing fish and a topwater bite, or he would have never caught one. One story, we went bass fishing at a private pond and using ultralights and we ( I ) caught 46 fish. I would catch two or three, give him my lure, stand side by side showing him how to do it, hooking fish and letting him reel it in, he would point the rod at the fish, give them slack, do anything to loose the fish. Ended the day 46 to 0, i felt bad, but what could I do....he vowed never to be outfished that badly again! Now it is a big joke when we go out, I tell him he is already down 40 fish...LOL, finally got him to learn to tie his own lures on and change his baits himself, but that one day, I bet I put 9 lures on his rod, then it was the rod, so i would cast his out, show him how to reel it in and work the bait and catch a fish, he would do it and no fish. When I was out there on Monday, a truck pulled up next to a family on the same point, the family was fishing and I saw them catch a few, but this truck pulled right down to the waters edge, got out and started fishing with the stereo playing loud...Could not believe it, so much for a quiet, relaxing fishing adventure.

I made it out yesterday from about 3 until 8 and experienced all kinds of weather conditions from howling winds and rain to calm and slick as glass. From 3 until about 6:30 I was frustrated, as Mr. skunk had been following me around all day.
I tried 5 different shallow wind blown points and nothing, not even a bite. Then I tried trolling a hell/pet on one side of the boat and a rattletrap on the other side and nothing. I trolled around the Mustang point area, up and down the model airplane field, along the dam, and over the humps in front of the school. Finally I tried slabbing; at this point I just wanted one fish to get rid of the skunk so I could go home and dry off. I slabbed the drop off at the model airplane field, the humps and point off of the fishing pier by the dam, the humps in front of the dam and not even a nibble. By this time I am getting PO'd and questioning my sanity for fishing in the rain and not even catching any fish. I tell myself one last spot and then I am throwing in the towel and giving this round to the lake. I pull up to the point by the Longhorn Boat ramp and before my slab even hits bottom I have a fish on. I thought that it was a miracle. I threw out a marker buoy and proceed to catch 39 by 7:30. At about 7:30 the wind stopped and the lake became slick as glass (again) and the bite slowed to a crawl. I caught a few more and headed to the house. I didn't catch as many nice ones as my previous trip, but what can you do? Of the 39 I would say that about 12 were 12 inches or better and about 15 were 8 inches or smaller.
I didn't even see one sea gull out there all day. I wonder where they went? I did have a wild turkey fly over my boat when I was first leaving the boat ramp at Rocky Creek, which was pretty cool. He (or she, I couldn't tell in flight) landed on the bank in the park about 100 yards from the floating dock.
I saw a couple of other idiots, I mean fishermen out on the water yesterday. Anyone from here?

Steve, my business offices are in benbrook industrial park across from the frisbee course on winscott. I would love to go when you have an open seat. Can work out gas and such with you. No doubt you will be the expert angler on the boat. paul

shoot me an e-mail with your numbers and i will call you next time i plan on going..none of my buddies will go with me, that think it is the dead sea,,even the one that you saw with me on Monday....it is too close not to sneak out there and fish for a few hours....doubt we will burn any gas at all, maybe a few fumes....but the deal is if you want the fish, you can have em...you have to clean them

Man...Is this week ever going to end??
A/C if my son were old enough to drive he would be standing right beside you...he's a little unhappy the schedule is not working his way right now -- me niether.
WW...don't know how to help you with the fuel problem, but it looks like Steve is giving boat rides...what a guy.
Cowtown...I wish I would gladly have fished in the rain, would have been just like last weekend at Texoma. Always works that way, catch fish right before you give up...One last pass, caught one and stayed another hour....
