Hey guys, Over the last 12 or 13 years that I've been fishing swimbaits one of the biggest problems I've encountered is baits that don't hold up to the fish. A good hardbait will last all season but a good swimbait is ruined just part way into a good day of fishing. I'm not talking about fishing little hollow-body type baits, this is about baits both big and small that use an internal harness to weight them. Most people I talk to are afraid to cut into an expensive bait. This video will show just how simple it is. These baits are not complicated and you're not going to do any damage by opening them up. This modification will help you land more fish per bait. Afterall, we're supposed to worry about landing the fish, not whether or not we'll still have a bait when the fish gets to the boat. I hope you enjoy the video!! Swimbait Video

Matt you will be forever known as "Dr. Swimbait"!!! Thanks for this video. Your swimbait madification video will most def. help me and many others get several more fish out of the soft body swimbaits. I look forward to doing that with my 8' Hudds. Thanks for the awesome advise.

Also if you don't have Mend-It available, take a lighter and heat the area up then hold the 2 sides together. It melts the plastic and stays soft enough to fuse the 2 sides back together. We used this method when I went through a bottle of Mend-It in Mexico last year. We were going through swimbait like water and I spent an hour every night back at the lodge repairing swimbaits. Picked up 10 more fish each off of the repaired baits which helped alot as we had gone through the whole box of swimbaits by day 2.

That sounds like a good problem! And yes, you are absolutely correct. Prior to mend-it being available I used a hot knife for my repairs. Thanks for your insights!

thanks Matt. I saw one where the hook was cut off, and the guy wired/crimped a treble to the hook eye. kinda like an assist hook in offshore fishing.

Ronnie, That is another common rigging technique but one that I personally do not like for most situations. However, there is a time and place for everything. Is this what you had in mind? This first video is how to rig stingers on a huddleston (I think that's what you're talking about). Stinger Hook Video The second is a 13 lber I landed with a bait rigged with a single treble wired on top. 13 lber on a Huddleston
