How come the guys down at the 61st pier dont use a little bit longer rod for the distance every one got 8 or 7 foot rods ,pretty stiff tryin there hardest to get out there? i am new to the pier fishing. can someone explane this to me

Don't do much pier fishing but I would think they use the stiff rods for the lift from water to pier ?

that what a drop net or roping is for.i would not lift a 20+ fish up a pier imo

i use my american rodsmith 10ft there and my buddies use 9ft there.

well the stiff rod is to man handle those big fish away from the pier piling and and get control of the fish. if you have the right rod/reel and a little casting skills you can make them go far to reach out to the big ones.

I use 7ft medium action rod to haul in 50lb. black drum jan-fed. 10 ft rods are a pain in the a*s fish and travel with. IMO

Nancy's bait and tackle (484) 560-9323, heard it mentioned before supposed to be close by. also if coming from the ferry there are a couple of places on the way one i used before is joes bait and crab its off hwy 87 you will see signs for it.
