Just got back form Amistad. Fishing was a little off but I had a good time. However, I was more disappointed by the fact that the water was off colored and there was a 250 boat tourny. The main reason why I like Amistad is becuase of the clear water. Oh well, it was still fun.

Anyways, I caught about 20 fish on saturday in the devils river and about 40 in San Pedro today (sun).

In the devils, we caught fish along the banks of creeks and in drains. Most fish came off of flooded brush. I caught fish on weightless senkos (wacky), drop shotting 4 inch worms, white/cahrt. waker, and 10 inch TX rigs. However, the majority came off of the senkos! Nothing over 2 lbs, and lots of dinks!

We found good hydrilla in the creek just left of the San Pedro ramp, but agian, no big fish. However, we got in an area where the 2 lbers were really schooling. It took a while to figure out what to thorw at them, but once I did it was a bass every cast. Again, it was the weightless senko. Kinda wird cause I was in about 20 ft of water. But the fish were busting on the surface so it didnt matter. Just throw it out a nd let it fall till they pick it up. I wasted too much time with these fish but it was fun.

Just before we left, I found a good point with lots of underwater cover, and bigger fish were stacked on it. My detector was going crazy pinging bait and fish. I decided to thorw a heavy TX rigged 12 inch power worm in watermelon candy. Right away I started getting bit, and the fish were solid. Nailed a couple 3 lbers, then hooked into a big one. I didnt get a good hook set and he shook me off about halfway to the boat. I got a good look as she jumped, about 10 lbs easy! I was shaking for like 10 minutes afterward. Depth was about 20-30 feet!

All in all, fun trip, lots of small fish, nothing too big though!

Yea, I will admit that the bite was tough, especially if you were fishing for bigger fish. The big ones werent very easy to find. Yes, I caught a lot of this but that was only because I didnt have to focus on catching big fish for a tourny. I was just having fun!

However, I did figure out a good pattern for the bigger fish before I left. Points that were wind blown on one side and protected on the other, seemed to be holding fish. The bass were right on the line between the wind blown and protected water in about 20-30 feet. If you could chart bait nballs, then the bass would be underneath. I caught several good fish the last 2 hrs of my trip like this and I wish I would have done it more. Oh well!

Winds were calm in the morning, but would pick up throughout the day to about 15-20 mph as storm cells moved in and out. In the mornings things were generally calm till about 9 am.

Yea, I shoulda been on that pattern all weekend and would have had I been by myself. However, I had dad and he gets frustrated fishing offshore deepwater stuff when things are slow. So, I stayed a little shallower and focussed on numbers!
