can someone tell me what in the world this fish is? I feel dumb asking because I spend so much time researching the local fish. But Ive never seen one like this. Im thinking some kind of carp. It had a red tail. A dorsal fin that stretched the length of the thing. Small(maybe 3/4")whiskers. Razor sharp teeth, A rounded red tail. And yes I saved it. After quite a bit of work(it had swallowed the hook)I was able to slowly remove the hook and put it back in the water to swim away. It looked like it had the head of a snake. The scales werent as big as a carp and not as tough as a gar. So im at a loss.

Isn't that an invasive fish? If it is you need to report it to TPWD to let them know.

Looks like these fish are good and bad for you. They create their own vitamin C in their own bodies, but they contain more mercury than most other fish in lakes.
