This morning, while fishing the backwaters of the big cove off of Joe Pool's main body (Estes pennisula (sp) south of unused boat ramp), I saw something moving in the woods. Out walked a bobcat. It was roughly 20-24 inches tall at the shoulder.

The bobcat walked along the water's edge all the way out to the point where the backwater meets the cove. After snapping a couple of shots with a disposable camera, I whistled at it to see if it even realized I was there. It just stopped, sat down, stared backed for a minute, got up and strolled on down the shore. It couldn't have been more than 40 feet from my boat at that point.

It's becoming a zoo back up in that area. I've seen coyotes, a couple of beavers, and, now, the bobcat.

I love bobcats. You are very lucky, most people don't see them. I saw on on Fork one evening several years ago.

Awesome! That's very cool! Bobcats are really cool creatures. Hope the pictures turn out well, and post them here when you're able!

I will post the pics if they turn out alright.

This is the 2nd time I've seen a bobcat along the shore. The first time was at Whitney, a couple of years back.

Saw one on Fairfield at the intake channel, he casually walked out of the reeds, thought he was a big house cat at first, we weren't 30 ft from him. He looked around, and slowly crept back into the reeds, was a sight I'll never forget.

ive seen deer in on the bank before, alligaters in the water, turtles on logs, beavers on damns, but never a bobcat on the bank. sound real cool. its always fun to see animals in the wild. i had a possum come in the boat one day. we werre tied up for the night and i went down to thew boat to get some bread and the dern thing is sitting in the boat poking around. after i shooed him out of the boat, he went to the end of the dock and hunkered down. it was the coolest thing to see.

I think that's one of the coolest things about bass fishing from a boat. You can access areas (legally! laugh ) that are nearly impossible to get to by foot and see some great widlflife and scenery.
Choke Canyon has some great stuff... We saw a BIG cat in a tree one day way up the river, but couldn't really make out what it was or get a picture fast enough. Must've been the size of a large dog, like a Lab. eeks

We were RV'ing at Cedar Hill SP last fall. Cooler weather. Had an adult friend with us in the RV and 2 grandsons in a tent. About 10 pm came a frantic knocking on the door. Our neighbor said he had just seen a large bobcat prowling around and wanted to make sure the kids in the tent would be OK. I thanked him but didn't think there was any real danger. Those two boys would probably scare King Kong back to Africa scared !

I have seen a bobcat at Ray Roberts and a cougar at Granbury. The cougar wasn't but a couple of hundred yards from a housing addition. He moved away quickly when he saw us. The bobcat saw us watching him and stopped and watched us for a moment. Then he came down to the bank where we had been fishing, and got a drink. He wasn't 30-40 feet from us, then walked off along the beach. He acted like he was used to fishermen.

I have seen several bobcats around Lake Texoma. In fact a neighbor's cat had a litter of kittens that had four or five born with a bobbed tail. There was a bobcat in the area around the time the mother cat became pregnant.

I saw a mountain lion on some land near my uncle's place that was close to Ft. Phantom Lake many, many years ago.

Was out with the crew a couple of weeks back working on our sampling project we have going, about 50 miles east of where the caprock starts to drop off, and we saw not one but THREE bobcats in the middle of the ranch road we were on. Was a mother and her two kittens/cubs. Them kittens were cute as all hell...we weren't but 10 yards or so from 'em.

I know one heck of a lot of biolgists that would like to document that! A bobcat that is thinking with his____ instead of his stomach? Impossible.
