Will be my first time fishing at Port Mansfield. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could do some wade fishing or any piers that might be open to the public. We are taking a boat, but would like to fish from the banks or pier at night.
Thanks

There is a public pier in the harbor and another north side of town in the city park. I believe the both have green lights for night fishing. You can probably wade fish the flats north of town.

When are you going? We have a group of 6 that will be down from Sept 18 - Sept 25. I'm getting pumped. Hired a guide for Monday.

Buy a hook-n-line map and you'll be able to see the best spots for your trip. Worth every penny.

We got back Saturday. Sunday was spent de-salting all my gear and boat. Had a great time, caught plenty of fish. No pics though, rained almost all week so my wife wouldn't get the camera out. Monday us "guys" went out with a guide. Excellent fella who put us on fish. He told us because of all the rains, Rio Grande floods, Arroyo Colorado floods and drainages; all the fish are migrating north to get out of the fresh water. We fished Gladi's Hole on the north end. 3 anglers, 9 reds and 12 trout boxed with many throw backs using live shrimp, Gulp in Lime Tiger (HOT!) or New Penny. All under DOA Clacker corks and 20" Vanish leaders. Shrimp we used #1 or 2 trebles, Gulp on a Lazer screw lock jig in 1/16 oz. I couldn't talk my wife into making the run to Gladi's, but we found good trout in the flats on the bay side to Padre island. Drifting and popping shrimp was the ticket, 4" Gulp in Lime Tiger when shrimp ran out. We got rained on 4 days in a row but still caught fish. Full moon made for an afternoon bite which was nice because we didn't have to get up so early. The East cut is swift with all the run off. The rest of our party fished the jetties (they had bigger boat than mine). Got broke off 3 times on 20# Big Game. They did land a 40" class Crevalle Jack. My anchor wouldn't hold at the jetties so the wife and I stuck to the flats. We caught a couple keeper fish each day until Friday. Then her and I found the mother load, 8 keeper trout and 1 black drum with several throw backs from 11:30am 'til 1:00pm. We left them biting to come in for lunch and break.
