Hi guys,
I appreciate all the information you make available on this forum. I bought a brand new x510c to replace my Eagle 320 on the bow. Also bought a 15' ethernet cable so I could share the transducer in the back of the boat. I have searched and read everything I could find about networking and sharing sonar between two units. Loaded the latest 2.5 ver software into the lms520c. I connected the two with the ethernet cable but I don't get the "sonar source" menu on either unit. In ethernet diagnostics I see three green lights on each unit indicating the connection state on both units, and see that each unit has a different IP address. On the 520 diag screen I see several ports open showing it's sending data to the 510, however on the 510 the ports open field is empty. I have transducers connected to both units, should I disconnect the transducer on the 510 in order to share? Also the transmisson baud rate defaults to 4800, should I set it to 9600?
I have the 520 connected to a NMEA 2000 network which feeds the GPS puck signal to it. What would I gain by connecting the 510 to that network too? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Rich
Richard

as for nema 2000 question only thing you will be able do is share sensor information like ep-80 or ep-35. and you can make wpt on your 510 and your 520 will save it that information there.

Thanks Jason. Can anybody that routinely does this tell me where the "sonar source" option is located on the lms520c menus, and what the baud rate is in ethernet diagnostics? I found a menu for selecting the model of transducer connected but not a source.

Anybody else?
Short & sweet:
1) where's the sonar source option located on the 520c?
2) what baud rate do I select for communication?
3) do you see open ports listed on the receiving unit in ethernet diagnostics?
4) do I disconnect the sonar from the receiving unit?
5) what do I gain on either unit if I connect them to a NMEA 2000 net too? Medic answered but if there's a better reason to spend $50 to expand the net, I'd like to know.
