Has anyone heard of this lake? I was looking on google for places around here to fish and a couple websites mentioned Barth Lake. I can't seem to find much information about it or how to get there! The websites say it is public.... ????

After seeing your post, I pulled it up on Google maps. Not sure I would call it a lake, but earlier this year while they were working on the SH 130 extension, they had pumps running in it and had it near dry. You might call the City of Lockhart and see if anyone can help.

Thanks for the info. I just drove around over there and it looks like they emptied it!

Guys,

I am currently working in Lockhart with the highway company working on the SH130 extension. We were in fact using this lake as to pump water to the trucks. I'm not sure of the status of it right now. I will look into it and try to post more info later.

On a similar note. Are there any other lakes in the area which would provide me some lunchtime action? I've been driving down to Fentress a couple times a week and fishing around the bridge near Sh21 in the San Marcos river. No luck as of yet but i've seen some fish in there.

There's a pond in the city park. Not sure if much is caught out of it or not.

Didn't know that was there. I'll have to check it out and repost my findings.

Thanks cellis.

Barth Lake is a private lake. It was built by Marvin Barth on his property. Marvin Barth's occupation was soil conservation (building Lakes, Tanks and clearing land) along with raising cattle. The Lake has an island in it. He built many of the Lakes and Tanks in Caldwell County and surrounding areas.

This is my father that I am writing about. I learned to fish there and learned to swim there. To me there was nothing better than smelling fresh turned earth as he was building his lakes/tanks.

After over 50 years of marriage, there was a nasty divorce. The homestead was not awarded to my dad. He passed away 5 years ago and I think seeing the new Hwy and all the changes going on would have broken his heart even more than losing the place in the divorce.

When you go fishing, enjoy the area you are in. Take pictures, take the time to look around. You never know when it will be gone.

I love Lake Fork. Sometimes even though i am catching fish, I still take the time for pictures of my surroundings.
