Headed to Port A with some buddies this weekend. Is it safe to use my fresh water revos in the bays?

Thanks

Give them a thorough flushing with fresh water and clean them up afterwards.

I use my Revo's without a problem.

I know it's a duplication of answer, but I wanted to go on record as actually agreeing with Tallgrass for once.

Wash ASAP, with fresh water.

Yes, just run freshwater over them at the end of the day.

I have been using Ambassador 5500 and 6500 for a long time in the salt and they have worked great. I recently used a Diawa newer low profile style and it holds up well too. What destroys the reel is that salt drying and crusting up on the little parts in the reel. Worm gears will get the brunt of the abuse first.

Its tough to clean a reel right after using it if your far away from freshwater so this is what I do ...

During the day I use a can of Reel Magic. I spray the reel down pretty good every so often to help keep that salt out of the reel and it lubes the parts as well.

After the day is over this is when you need to remember to clean that reel. When that salt dries its going to destroy that reel and it takes lots of new parts and time to get right again. So I keep a spray bottle of a mild degreaser like the stuff you use in the kitchen, two gallon jugs of water, and a 5 gallon bucket. Then I spray down the reel(or reels) with degreaser and pour that first gallon of water in the bucket. I then rinse the reel in the water in the bucket really good. Leave the reel in the water and do the next reel if there is more. After every reel is done I take that last gallon of water and rinse each reel by pouring the clean water over the reel and the let the excess water fall in the bucket.

I keep all the water and pour it back into the jugs so I can keep the degreaser for cleaning other stuff at the house.

Now spray that Reel Magic all over those reels and your good to go.

It sounds like a lot to do when its been a long day of fishing but would you rather buy new reels or just spend 10 minutes cleaning them?? I have had the same Ambassador reels for almost 10 years without any issues.
