Any reconmendations on which shoes to wear for the Jetty? Is softball cleats (metal spikes) better than golf shoes?

Im tired of slipping and almost falling while running around on the Jetty rocks trying to cast for bait.

Thanks.

Twin

I too got tired of slipping and broke down and bought a pair of crocs... I got the ones that have grip on the bottom and have the lace up like thing so that you can pull them tight on your feet. I have compared them to a buddies shimano shoes that were just like my crocs. He fell on the slick rocks, I kept going. Plus they are crocs and they dont kill your lower back from walking all over those rocks.

If you are just looking for a pair of spikes. Just get a pair of spikes that strap on to the toe of your tennis shoes. They work pretty well, but aren;t as comfy when wet as the crocs.

So, you dont slip on the wet rocks on the Jetty with crocs?

Are these the crocs you have?

i don't think spikes are a good idea unless you get some very sharp small ones. regular spikes like golf or baseball cleats wont dig into the rocks and will just give you less surface area between your feet and rocks. i don't have a good recommendation for what to wear but i wouldn't use cleats...

I'm not jetty experienced so this may be off the wall... Flyfishermen use boots with felt on the bottoms in rocky streams to prevent slipping on the algae. You can buy replacement felt soles and perhaps glue them to some cheap tennis shoes or old crocs. Just a thought.

We use these

And we get them here http://catalog.catfishconnection.com/
Look under Misc. Catfish Items- Sure Grip Shoe Treads
We wrap duck tape around the instep so they won't slide around. Cheap($5.95) and the boot size HTSG2 are extra tough cleats and will last many trips.
These have saved my keester more times than I can count.

Track spikes work very well. I wear Keens or my regular hodgeman wading boots.

Golf spikes wont work. But the spikes like Davo's will work fine.

Use river wading shoes with felt bottoms and you will never slip.

go to cabelas.com and type in the item number 9IS-831150 and item number IA-830856. you will find what you need.I my self purchase a pair of wading boots from cabelas throw away all the cheap 1/4 inch screws cleats that came with it and purchase the 1/4 tungsten carbide cleats and replace it.It cuts thru rocks like butter and don't wear out.
