well some butwipe stole the tailgate off my new f150 truck, im saving up for another one, untill then anyone know something i can put back there as a tempary replacement and doesent look like cr@p.

Tailgate net comes to mind. less than $50 for a temp solution.

That's absolutely terrible. The only thing I can think of would be an airgate like wingem suggested. They're pretty cheap, and it should do the trick. Good luck.

I was on craigslist today looking for Jeep parts and saw an ad for a 2010 f150 tailgate for sale...white in color. Thought it was strange to see such a new year model. You might check it out if yours was a white one. I despise theives. Good luck.

man I hate a thief. I thought stealing a tailgate was low I just read on another forum that someone stole a guys rear shocks off of his truck in a school parking lot.

no, i didnt have it locked, i never ever really thought about it.

well, ill be getting a tail gate soon, i found some on craigslist and 1 on ebay, then i have a few ideas to lock it and keep it secure.

I tell my wife to always lock hers and I check it. If unlocked I lock. She gets mad because she likes to sit on it in the driveway. I wish my Tacoma locked especially since I have the back up camera.

Redfin gave this tip on another thread about this same thing a while back.

"Easy way to fix a tailgate from being stolen - metal hose clamp around the slotted tube with the tailgate open. Keeps them (and you) from lifting the end with the pivot pin out of its slotted tube. Thieves won't take the time to take a hose clamp off if they have to lay down under the truck to get to the clamp screw."

You can buy an aftermarket lock for the Tacoma. I got one on ebay for $30 a couple years ago. Looks factory. Its probably not enough to stop a really smart thief, but how many of those are there anyways...
